Terri Hodge14 people were named in a federal indictment that was unsealed in Dallas, TX today. Amongst them is State Rep. Terri Hodge (Democrat, though you have to dig for that tidbit of info in the stories…wonder if that would be the case if she were a Republican?).

Go here to read the entire 100-page indictment.

According to the federal indictment, the objective was:

“…to unjustly enrich Hodge through her corrupt solicitation, acceptance (of) things of value in return for her performance of official acts and use of her official position as a state representative”

The 66-year old Hodge is accused of taking bribes from people trying to develop an affordable public housing project in her district. Nice going, Rep. Hodge.

Hodge faces up to 100 years in prison and 3.5 million in fines for the 15 counts of bribery, conspiracy, and fraud. She is charged with eight counts of bribery, five counts of fraud and false statements in connection with federal income tax returns, and one count of conspiracy to commit bribery.

Hodge is currently representing District 100 in her fourth term in the Texas House of Representatives. Ironically, she serves on the Criminal Jurisprudence Committee.

She’s about to gain a whole new perspective on criminal jurisprudence.

A quick look around the Progressive and Liberal political blogs that focus on Texas politics, and of the 10 or so that I quickly checked, only PinkDome has posted anything about the story. Though she does conveniently omit Hodge’s political affiliation…

I would expect that the guys over at BurntOrangeReport are probably trying to think of a good way to spin this…as of right now it looks like they are just going with the “ignore it” option…

As of this posting, the Austin American-Statesman is ignoring it too…

I can understand if the guys at BurntOrangeReport just haven’t gotten around to posting about it yet — they’re busy college kids probably still trying to recover from the UT loss to K. State this weekend. But for the Statesman, this is supposed to be a full-time gig.

The Statesman did have time to write and post a story about Britney Spears being ordered to give her kids to Kevin Federline

What a shame for the city and all African Americans in Dallas who elected her.

Check out the rest of the indictees who are or were elected politicians. I think they’re all black.

More despicable is this — according to Elise Hu at KVUE and The Dallas Morning News’ political writer Gromer Jeffers Jr., Hodge doesn’t usually even have anybody run against her for her seat.

So, unless she actually is in jail when she’s up for re-election, she’ll win again. Hell, I’m not so sure the Dallas folks wouldn’t re-elect her even if she’s given the full 100 year sentence.

This was in the news here in Dallas, even before the indictments were handed down. What’s funny is, the Mayor Pro-Tem, who is indicted, complained to the FBI a few months ago, that the FBI should return all of the documents they seized two years ago, since nothing has come of the investigation. File that one under careful what you wish for.
Unfortunately, the Dallas city government has a terrible reputation for corruption and payoffs for favors. This isn’t the only FBI prosecution of corrupt Dallas officials in the past ten years. One was a city councilman, accepting bribes for favorable rulings by the City Council for rules regarding the taxi industry. He served house arrest for several years, because of his age and health, and attempted to run for his old seat on the council.
So, for many of us here in Dallas, we weren’t surprised to hear this news. South Dallas, and North Dallas are a world apart. I’m ready to move a few minutes North to Plano.
Personally, the news I’m waiting to hear from the Cabell Federal building, is the jury decision in the trial of the Holy Land Foundation for funding terrorism. They were funneling charity donations to the Paleostinians of Hamas.

Blacks committing White Collar crimes… wow, they’ve come a long way baby..

Where Are The Calls For Resignation?…

It is really too bad that John shut down the Bay Area Houston website last week — I’d love to get his take on this story. A meeting behind a church with $10,000 cash changing hands, five-figure gifts for a……

After following your link, I see that Britney article wasn’t written by the Statesman, it was written by the AP. And various versions of the indictment story by the AP have been up on the Statesman’s homepage, where the AP stories normally are. here’s the most recent:
