Senator Pete Domenici (R-NM) has announced that he is retiring and not seeking re-election in 2008:

N.M. Senator Domenici to retire over brain disorder

WASHINGTON — Sen. Pete Domenici is retiring after a generation as a dominant Republican voice on budget matters in Congress, deferring to health concerns after six terms in office.

The 75-year-old New Mexico senator scheduled a formal announcement late this afteroom in Albuquerque. In a draft statement, he said he has a progressive disease that can cause dysfunction in the parts of the brain important for organization, decision-making and control of mood and behavior.

I wish Senator Domenici the very best.

But in the meantime, Senators like 89-year old Robert Byrd (D-WV) and 75-year old Ted Kennedy (D-MA) continue on despite their significant brain disorders…these two old decrepit men have served a combined 93 years in the Senate. Neither one of these men would know an honest day’s work if they accidentally happened into one.

I swear to God, these blabbering and slobbering old men are going to have to be carried out of Congress in coffins rather than retire gracefully and before their mental faculties are all gone.

And yet, blathering Leftards think that there is disgrace is retiring and honor in holding onto your seat long after you are clinically brain dead (i.e., Strom Thurmond).

Wouldn’t your argument be stronger if you don’t cap it with the epitome of a reactionary conservative and lifelong politician?

Just goes to show the shear power and ego boost these traitorous sell outs (in my opinion) must get out of being in power…to work and get up every day at the age of 75 or 80, for what? they geezers are so old and out of touch with us and the real world it would be hilarious if it weren’t so freakin dangerous. I don’t know about you, but I plan to retire looong before that age. I guess all that butt kissing, government paid for everything, and the mind rotting power trip must be hard to give up huh? I say an age limit of 65 on all elected officials in this country…from city councilman to president. Let’s put these old relics out to pasture and for goodness sake maybe get some new blood. Maybe someone who has not been bought and sold so many times they can’t even remember what’s like outside their gated homogeneous safe little community.

It’s not so complicated: if you don’t like your job you try to retire early, if you do, you keep working. You don’t have to be evil to feel that way.

If you honestly have a problem with the buying and selling of politicians the answer is pretty clear and it has nothing to do with their ages: publicly financed elections.

All of you who want to expel the nation’s illegal immigrants should be jumping at the chance to get your party from under the thumb of big business that has continually thwarted the desire of the Republican rank and file.

As a Democrat, I’d be thrilled to have the the support of each American count equally regardless of the amount of money they have in the bank.

Term limits, and removing the healthcare and retirement bennies Congress Critters get, would solve the problem. Make them actually have to work for a living, and get medicare and Socialist Security like most citizens.
As a former Democrat, I would also love to see one man-one vote, each election. Not voters who are felons or have no photo ID. Or beholden to Hollywood and Soros.

Got something you want to say?
