Camille Paglia is probably my favorite Democrat (now that Joe Lieberman is an Independent — thanks, nutroots). She’s smart, insightful, and not afraid to tell the ugly truth.
I disagree with almost all of her politics, but I respect the way in which she expresses herself. And I especially enjoy her frank criticisms of her own party.
In her most recent article at Salon, Paglia takes the Democratic leadership — whom she calls a “pack of vain, spineless, poll-puking, strutting peacocks” — to task over their obsession with destroying Rush Limbaugh:
However, I must confess my own exasperation with the Democratic leadership, who spout tiresome platitudes but achieve little and who stampede off on puerile publicity stunts that alienate potential voters across party lines. The latest example is the near-delusional campaign to turn popular radio host Rush Limbaugh, who has unwaveringly supported the military for nearly 20 years, into an anti-military antichrist. If Democrats are serious about ideology-based government regulation of talk radio, then the party is fast abandoning its fundamental principles, central to which should be constitutionally protected free speech.
She’s right, of course.
Except that Democrats aren’t serious about constitutionally protected free speech. They’re serious about getting and holding onto power. And if shutting up the opposition is what it takes, then that’s what they’re willing to do.

Congress so wants to shut down talk radio. So this is just another way to whip people up and make it look like another good reason to shut these conservatives up. I don’t really like Rush that much, kind of boring and a follower really. I am more of a Savage fan. Now that guy speaks his mind and does not care who likes it.
Don’t be fooled by this stunt, congress is just looking for reasons to shut down one of the last places people have a voice..talk radio. With all the problems we have in the world, and this is what some leaders spend their time on.? That’s Incomprehensibly stupid. Anyone with a brain the size of a walnut knows that their are people going around and claiming to have been in the war and were not.
For congress to turn this into something else is just sad. Congress should be looking at themselves actually. They are the ones putting roadblocks at every turn for the soldiers on the ground.
I say untie the military’s hands and lets get the carpet bombing campaign on so we can bring this thing to a conclusion. Why with all our ships, planes, bombs are we doing this house to house? Hey flatten the entire region like we did in WW2 then send in the troops to get who’s left. I know to some this sounds mean and not politically correct…and that’s precisely why we won’t hit them with the full force of our military and why we will be dealing with this for the next 50 plus years. If we had the guts to do what was needed, this could have been over in a few months. Then we clean up and rebuild the region just like with germany. You notice germany plays nice now.? Yeah cause they were brought to their knees, and all the bad guys were eliminated. This enemy only understands one thing. Force..! And that’s the one thing we can’t fully unleash because of all the political correctness that has seeped into every aspect of our society.
