Camille PagliaCamille Paglia is probably my favorite Democrat (now that Joe Lieberman is an Independent — thanks, nutroots). She’s smart, insightful, and not afraid to tell the ugly truth.

I disagree with almost all of her politics, but I respect the way in which she expresses herself. And I especially enjoy her frank criticisms of her own party.

In her most recent article at Salon, Paglia takes the Democratic leadership — whom she calls a “pack of vain, spineless, poll-puking, strutting peacocks” — to task over their obsession with destroying Rush Limbaugh:

However, I must confess my own exasperation with the Democratic leadership, who spout tiresome platitudes but achieve little and who stampede off on puerile publicity stunts that alienate potential voters across party lines. The latest example is the near-delusional campaign to turn popular radio host Rush Limbaugh, who has unwaveringly supported the military for nearly 20 years, into an anti-military antichrist. If Democrats are serious about ideology-based government regulation of talk radio, then the party is fast abandoning its fundamental principles, central to which should be constitutionally protected free speech.

She’s right, of course.

Except that Democrats aren’t serious about constitutionally protected free speech. They’re serious about getting and holding onto power. And if shutting up the opposition is what it takes, then that’s what they’re willing to do.

Congress so wants to shut down talk radio. So this is just another way to whip people up and make it look like another good reason to shut these conservatives up. I don’t really like Rush that much, kind of boring and a follower really. I am more of a Savage fan. Now that guy speaks his mind and does not care who likes it.

Don’t be fooled by this stunt, congress is just looking for reasons to shut down one of the last places people have a voice..talk radio. With all the problems we have in the world, and this is what some leaders spend their time on.? That’s Incomprehensibly stupid. Anyone with a brain the size of a walnut knows that their are people going around and claiming to have been in the war and were not.

For congress to turn this into something else is just sad. Congress should be looking at themselves actually. They are the ones putting roadblocks at every turn for the soldiers on the ground.

I say untie the military’s hands and lets get the carpet bombing campaign on so we can bring this thing to a conclusion. Why with all our ships, planes, bombs are we doing this house to house? Hey flatten the entire region like we did in WW2 then send in the troops to get who’s left. I know to some this sounds mean and not politically correct…and that’s precisely why we won’t hit them with the full force of our military and why we will be dealing with this for the next 50 plus years. If we had the guts to do what was needed, this could have been over in a few months. Then we clean up and rebuild the region just like with germany. You notice germany plays nice now.? Yeah cause they were brought to their knees, and all the bad guys were eliminated. This enemy only understands one thing. Force..! And that’s the one thing we can’t fully unleash because of all the political correctness that has seeped into every aspect of our society.

I like Rush, and have found over time, his ability to analyze info and make accurate predictions, is amazing.
I tried to listen to Savage, but I can’t handle his voice, speech pattern, or his tangential nature. I mean, talking about an interesting topic, and within the span of seconds he is talking about Lima beans?
Regardless of who one likes to listen to, the fact is, more people get information from talk radio each day, than any other source, and it isn’t dominated by liberal or left leaning news sources. The libs have tried talk radio, but it has never worked for them, as the market place of ideas requires….ideas. That the Dems in Congress would want to kill talk radio isn’t difficult to believe, as it works against them, and as for Reid sending a letter of condemnation to Clear Channel, smells of threatening broadcast licenses. Knock me over with a feather.

OK, rush is not that bad. But I like a more radical host who is completely unplugged from any party. that way this person can supposedly be free to rail against who he likes. Rush, hannity, etc they are really repubs. in conservative clothing. They say a lot of good things, but they also ra-ra wave the flag to the people and water down a lot of issues too I think. Look, our country is like a cancer patient on life support..the time for nice gentle fixes is over. We need radical new ways and approaches to cure what is wrong with this country. Sometimes Rush and others sounds a little like someone who “has his piece of the pie” and whatever happens at the end of the day he will be fine. Totally understandable, if I was a millionaire I am sure I would look at life with a greater sense of ease as well…but we need voices out there that are not afraid to rail against both sides, because it is both sides that got us in the messy situation we are stuck in right now. I don’t just mean the war, I mean all aspects of America. Immigration and wasteful spending being two huge issues. I wish some third party would come along with a strong, moral, no nonsense person to give us a true third choice..but I don’t see that or see the dems or repubs allowing that either…that would be less control and power for them…so here we are stuck with two milk toast, do nothing parties. Our forefathers would be ashamed of us for electing such a weak crop of empty suits. But we have to trudge on and pick the best person we can out of this bunch of clowns…and yes I know Savage is rich too…and he does wander when he talks..but I like that.

It’s like the episode of South Park, where they had to rename the school mascot, and the two choices were “Turd Sandwich” or “Douche.”
Stan didn’t want to vote for either, and had it explained to him, that in life, those are often your two choices in any election. Good point.
I just wish these nominees that keep saying they are “Reagnesque” would actually be so.
I will never vote for a Dem again, as I did when I was younger, at least not until people like Zell Miller and Joe Lieberman are in charge, not the whackjob leftists.

funny, yes it is exactly like that episode of south park…exactly. those are our two choices and they both stink.

Got something you want to say?
