Last week in Houston, Angel Jesus Hernandez, 24, fled the scene after he hit a child with his car. He was pulled over and arrested a short distance away after he hit several other cars.
The child, 23-month old Gissela Silvestre, died from her injuries.
Hernandez wasn’t just drunk, but he is also here in our country illegally:
An accused drunken driver was in the country illegally when he drove onto a sidewalk in southwest Houston last week and fatally struck a toddler walking with her parents, authorities said.

Officials with Immigrations and Customs Enforcement said Hernandez is originally from Mexico. They don’t know when he came to the United States or how he entered the country — other than to say it wasn’t through legal means.
“I just know that he hasn’t been arrested before this,” said ICE spokeswoman Leticia Zamarripa. “He doesn’t have any prior immigration history.”
Houston police officers administered a breathalyzer test about three hours after the accident. The examination indicated Hernandez had a blood alcohol level of .15, police said. The legal limit for intoxication in Texas is .08.
Hernandez was charged with intoxicated assault with a vehicle and failure to stop and render assistance. He remains at the Harris County Jail without bond.
I hope someone let him know that he has the right to speak to his consulate. And then I hope that we lock him up for the rest of his life. And then send a bill to the Mexican government for the cost of his confinement, the court cost, and a hefty liability judgment against the Mexican government.
It’s way past time that we start making the Mexican government share the financial responsibility for their part in aiding and encouraging illegal immigration to the United States.
This story is tragic and sad on every level. But it didn’t have to happen. If our borders were forceably and fiercely secured and protected against illegal immigration — as they should be — this could have been prevented.
Gissela Silvestre would still be alive today.

I’m all for charging drivers who kill with their crimes.
But if Mexicans aren’t committing these crimes at a higher rate than native-born Americans your claim is essentially dishonest. Yes there would be fewer accidents if there were no illegal immigrants. There would be even fewer if there were no people at all! Native born Americans are at no greater danger if the accident rates are the same.
