Election 2008

Fred Thompson’s Immigration Plan

Tough I won’t vote for him*, I do support Fred Thompson’s run for President. And his immigration plan is a big reason.

The highlights:

  • No Amnesty
  • Enforce Existing Federal Laws … including:
    • End Sanctuary Cities
    • Deny discretionary Federal education grants
    • Deny discretionary Federal education grants as appropriate to public universities that violate federal law by offering in-state tuition rates to illegal aliens without also offering identical benefits to United States citizens, regardless of whether or not they live in the state
  • Increased Border Security: Doubling Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents handling interior enforcement, increasing the Border Patrol to at least 25,000 agents, and increasing detention space to incarcerate illegal aliens we arrest rather than letting them go with a promise to show up later for legal proceedings against them.
  • Attrition through Enforcement
  • Maximize Legal Immigration Program Efficiency
  • Modernize Immigration Law/Policy
  • English as Official Language
  • Preference for American Military Service

There’s not one part of that plan that I disagree with. In fact, this is what our immigration policy should have looked like all along. I’d also add something about stricter penalties for those who hire illegal workers, too.

* My own litmus test for President --- I won't vote for anybody who has never served on active duty in our military.

One comment for “Fred Thompson’s Immigration Plan”

  1. This all sounds good of course. but will any of it happen if he is elected?? Do any of our leaders still have the will to make this stuff happen??? I have serious doubts. or else they would actually do something, anything about it…right now the door is so wide open, and the purse strings are so loose it’s a joke to say we are still a sovereign country with borders. Just look how gov. zoolander did a 180 on the border after he got in..what a joke he is. I have been burned so many times, that now I am jaded that there is enough strength left in this country to stop illegals much less reverse this train wreck.
