Liberals blame Bush and Rethuglicans
Yesterday morning I woke up and checked the blog headlines via Memeorandum, and the talk of the morning was that liberal Air America radio host Randi Rhodes had been viciously mugged and beaten while out walking her dog.
The first few related blog-posts I read before I had to head out to Brig. Gen. David “Tex” Hill’s funeral were from liberal blogs. And they had a common conspiracy theory that was already starting to be floated — that Rhodes was attacked by Rethuglicans (probably dispatched by Michelle Malkin) to “shut her up” because we “are afraid of her.”
Brilliant at Breakfast in a post titled “American Brownshirts“wrote:
It now seems that Air America firebrand Randi Rhodes may have been the latest victim to pay the price in a very real way for daring to oppose the status quo.

The initial report, and the cause of much of the resulting hysteria came from another Air America host, Jon Elliott:
“Is this an attempt by the right-wing, hate machine to silence one of our own?” he asked on the air, according to Talking Radio, a blog. “Are we threatening them? Are they afraid that we’re winning? Are they trying to silence intimidate us?”
Well — by the time I returned home from the funeral servies, the story had changed a bit.
It turns out that Ms. Rhodes wasn’t attacked by evil little Brownshirted Rethuglicans at all — she fell on her drunken ass:
Randi Rhodes was no more assaulted by a right-wing fanatic on Monday than Dick Cheney was. She, in fact, fell down and injured her teeth outside of a Midtown Irish bar at around 6 o’clock Sunday evening after downing about fourteen Ketel One Bloody Marys. She was abusive to the barstaff and generally gross, crass, loud, and pretentious.

Anyone who thinks that bigotry has no place in the liberal mindset has — once again — just received a material lesson to the contrary. Even without knowing anything about the attacker, several bloggers just decided that it had to be a politically motivated assault by a conservative. That’s not leaping to conclusions, that’s flying at jet speed to Paranoialand.
I had heard there was a Randi Rhodes and an Air America, but had no first hand knowledge of their existence. Thought they were just urban legends.
Now…Randy Rhoads, that dude was for real!

I followed this story closely, initially because I was concerned for Ms. Rhodes health, and ultimately because, well it just became so damn funny.
I listened to Ms. Rhodes program on Thursday – her first day back – to hear HER explaination. And hey, I listened to all three hours – shouldn’t I get a medal for that? Anyhow, after comically glossing over it at the top of her show – and NEVER addressing how her supporters had jumped to the “conservative attack” stand – she had the audacity to claim that she had read about 75 articles about the attack and none of them “got the facts right”.
Well DUH. Of course they didn’t get the facts right, because you and your cronies didn’t put out the right facts. But then, If I got wasted and fell down, I wouldn’t be looking to tell too many people that.
I thought Randy Rhodes died in a plane crash with Ozzy’s tour bus?
