I’ve said many times before, that if you ever find yourself believing that patriotism is dead, or that people in general are just no good — drive out into small town Texas (it’s probably the same in Any Small Town, USA).

Small towns like Elgin, TX — our area Patriot Guard Riders were invited to Neidig Elementary School in Elgin as part of their Veterans Day ceremony.

Here’s the email I received about the invitation:

The Staff and Students of Neidig Elementary School in Elgin, Texas, just east of Austin on US 290, have invited PGR members to spend 30 minutes with them during a flag ceremony honoring Veterans of the military services. They have seen news reports about the group and are grateful for what the PGR stands for.

The program is scheduled for Monday, November 12th, beginning about 7:45am for about 30 minutes. This will include a speaker for 10 minutes (at the most), the Pledge of Allegiance, coffee, and donuts.

This is not a PGR mission. It’s children wanting to thank us for what we do, and staff who want to teach what is right. If anyone is off on Monday and can attend, please do so.

You know what’s more patriotic than teaching your kids to “dissent” and hate? Teaching them to honor and respect.

Can you imagine something like this happening in San Fransisco? (that’s a rhetorical question, obviously, as the city of San Fransisco does not honor Veterans — nor active duty soldiers for that matter, or potential soldiers, either).

I’m looking forward to meeting with these kids — I think it’s important to show (and not just tell) children what it means to honor and respect our nation, its military, and its flag.
