Something you just don’t ever hear or see reported: Conservative or Republican Protesters Arrested

It just doesn’t happen.

But on the other hand, almost every single time Leftards are exercising “the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances” you can bet some of them are going to go too far, break a law, assault someone, vandalize something, or get arrested.

Like yesterday when Alberto Gonzalez was making his first public speech at the University of Florida.

I’m always amazed that the “tolerant” Left’s freedom of speech almost always involves denying that same right to those with whom they disagree — either by shouting them down, physically attacking them (throwing pies at speakers, anybody?), disrupting the speeches that they were invited to give, or otherwise preventing them from expressing their views.

Again, this is something you just don’t see happening from the Right. Draw your own inclusion as to why you think this is so — I have my own opinions that mostly have to do with the way these kids were raised…

With an unwavering, dog-like obedience to, and inability to question, authority?

Happy Thanksgiving My Friend.

Isn’t the defining principle of conservativism the idea that the old ways of doing things are better?

That would sort of rule out protesting against them, I’d suppose.

Preston, there are conservative protests. Anti-abortion protests are a big one, but you hardly ever hear of conservatives being arrested for that.

Draw your own conclusions.

Whatever.

Protest isn’t really my cup of tea, but I think there are greater values than getting a pat on the head because you turned a blind eye to injustice.

I’ll take Martin Luther King Jr. and his arrest record over the millions of ‘good citizens’ who sat on their asses waiting for white people to finally get around to reading the Constitution.

Good post, Robbie.
There is peaceful protest, and then there is disrespectful and disruptive agitprop.

A good piece today, by James Lewis, seems appropriate to this thread.

The Boomer Left started its long march to power by breaking all the family rules — proper dress, basic cleanliness, personal responsibility, hard work, telling the truth, loyalty in love, respectful speech, self-discipline in sexuality, drugs and alcohol … all the way to gratitude toward one’s country. Because that’s what patriotism is, of course. When the New York Times happily betrays national security secrets today, it is just acting on the same generational need to break down American values. It makes them feel good.

Thanks Eric — I hope your Turkey Day is filled with great friends and family, an abundance of great food, and that all your teams win on Thursday (unless you root for the Lions or the Jets).

Preston, I find it hilarious that you can even mention Martin Luther King in this. He was all about non-violent protest, remember?

I think today’s lefties could take a page out of his book.

Nazar: he was still involved in protests that could be deemed as disruptive, as any archival footage of Montgomery bus boycotts will tell you.

Preston’s (and my) point being that to bring about change, you have to rattle cages.

Got something you want to say?
