One of my Patriot Guard Rider friends sent me the following e-mail:

The new Z’tejas restaurant in north Austin at Parmer and Avery Ranch will be serving Thanksgiving dinner to approx. 500 Ft Hood soldiers on Thanksgiving Day.

The soldiers are coming down one bus load at a time, starting at 10:30 am and ending about 2:30 pm.  The restaurant is being staffed entirely by volunteers that day, and the greeter, server and cleanup positions are open to the public.

My wife and I had lunch there Sunday and got the details from the restaurant management.  There are sign-up sheets for different shifts and positions, but I’m sure they can put you to work if you just show up.

So if you or anyone you know has an interest in expressing thanks on Thanksgiving Day to those who protect us, this is one opportunity to do so.

First of all — Kudos to the fine folks at Z’tejas for doing this. I have a lot of choices as to where to eat here in Austin — but gestures like this make me want to patronize your restaurants even more.

Second — I wish we were going to be in town for this. I would love to share Thanksgiving with our Soldiers.

If you are in town, consider volunteering to serve those who have spent their lives serving you.

Got something you want to say?
