So, the “crashing of the gate” by Markos Moulitsas is complete:
MARKOS MOULITSAS, FOUNDER AND PUBLISHER OF DAILYKOS.COM,
TO BECOME NEWSWEEK CONTRIBUTOR FOR 2008 PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGNNew York — Markos Moulitsas, the founder and publisher of dailykos.com, will become a Newsweek contributor for the 2008 presidential campaign, offering occasional opinion pieces to the pages of the magazine and to Newsweek.com.
As booman puts it, “it’s official, the revolution is over”.
How does one “rail against The Man” once you become “The Man”?
Good for him. I’m glad to see bloggers (even Liberal ones) capitalizing on their blogging. But my head is no closer to exploding than it was before reading this news.
Markos already receives paid advertising from politicians and is a prominent fund raiser for others, so it’ll be nice for him to have a new vehicle to endorse his candidates and earn their advertising and consulting dollars.
I just hope Newsweek isn’t so naive as to believe that his writing for them won’t be biased towards the politicians who he’s being paid by — even the Columbia Journalism Review suggested that Daily Kos is for sale to politicians such as Mark Warner.
But at the end of the day, how do I really feel about Markos writing for Newsweek? About the same way I feel about Ms. Cox writing for Time — I don’t care.
I don’t read Newsweek anymore. There are occasional stabs at providing some balanced coverage (see: George Will and Fareed Zakaria). But it’s still a typical MSM news source: Left leaning. Adding The Kos doesn’t really add a new voice or perspective to their coverage. It just reinforces it.
And adding a single Conservative blogger isn’t going to “balance” their coverage (though it’s a start).
________
Tom Maguire at JustOneMinute supports the Kos writing for Newsweek, too:
Kos will be providing commentary for Newsweek’s readers as Nov ’08 approaches and I am all for it – let’s eliminate the MSM filter, bring the crazy aunt down from the attic, and let America get to know the Nutroots in their unvarnished glory. And if anyone has a problem with that, screw ‘em.
Newsweek has yet to announce which Conservative blogger will “balance” the Kos in their November ’08 Election coverage. If they still haven’t decided, I have a suggestion:
Pick me.
I’ll do it.
Pick me if you want someone to “balance’ the Kos — I can be as equally vile, hateful, and polarizing as the Kos. I hate cheese eating surrender monkey Liberals probably as much as he hates God-worshipping, pro-victory Conservatives.

Don’t do it, Robbie!
Newsweek lost their cred a long time ago, but they continue on as a cheerleader for the far left.
They would edit the stuffing out of anything you wrote.
Well, dang!
Lord Rove to join Newsweek.
Maybe they are interested in restoring their cred, after all.
So you have to employ a lifelong Republican operative to have any ‘credibility’?
Well, it’s good to know what the rules are, in any case.
