This is good news:

Republicans retained two House seats in special elections Tuesday, including a hotly contested Ohio race that the two parties spent nearly $700,000 trying to win.

Though I suspect that the Left-o-sphere will find a way to spin it in their favor.

The Ohio district where Republican State legislator Bob Latta decisively defeated Democrat Robin Weirauch (Ohio’s 5th District) went for Gov. Ted Strickland (D-Ohio) and Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) in the last election.

This is good for the GOP. Bad for the Democrats. And that makes my day.

Two seats in the House going to the GOP, in Ohio, is no small thing.
I don’t know if it is a predictor of 08, or a reaction to 07, but it is significant.

In 2004, both districts went about 60% for Bush and 39% Kerry.

This was written before the election:

OH-05 has a PVI of R+10.1, and VA-01 sits at R+8.9. To put it another way, these districts supported Bush by 21 and 22-point margins in 2004. On any given day, these districts should be rock solid turf for the GOP.

But, as Roll Call reports, the NRCC is taking nothing for granted, making some independent expenditures against VA-01 Dem nominee and Iraq vet Phil Forgit on behalf of state Delegate Rob Wittman, the GOP candidate:
