More than 200 SUVs vandalized in parts of Austin.

…Austin police said Tuesday that the incident was one of about 400 cases throughout the city since August in which sport-utility vehicle owners have had rear windows shattered.

In most cases, nothing was stolen.

Police said they do not have a motive but think the vandals are probably acting as a group. They have targeted SUVs of all makes and models and might be using BB guns to shatter the windows.

Detective Mason Feinartz, who works in Southwest Austin, said that in his area, most cases of criminal mischief involve vandals who spray-paint signs or deflate tires on cars. But since June, he has investigated 200 incidents in which SUV windows were shattered.

A lot of this is going on in one very specific part of town — 78704. Austin’s primary Hippie enclave.

Back to my self-defense fetish — but if I catch some hippies out in my yard vandalizing my Land Rover, I’m going to shoot them. Dead. If they have a gun of some-sort shooting out my windows, I’m not going to wait around to see if it’s a bb-gun, or a .22 caliber. I’m not going to wait around to see what else they might be going to shoot.

The Castle Law is a wonderful, wonderful thing.

So if you’re a punk kid or a politically motivated hippie doing this — be aware that there a lot of people in this city like me who are armed and willing and able to defend our home and property. And there’s a pretty good chance that before you’re arrested, some of you are going to get shot.

Dead.

‘Gotta love the intolerance from the party of tolerance — “Drive what we want you to drive, or we’ll destroy your SUV.”

We’ve had this problem in Anderson Mill. In one case the perps shot at a homeowner who saw them.

More Intolerance from the Party of Tolerance

So this was a Democratic Party event?

Um … which party are you talking about? Democrats? Republicans? Greens? Frankly, if there is any political affiliation behind this, it sounds more Anarchist than anything else. I’d be willing to bet whoever did this considers themselves much too holier-than-thou to vote Democrat, if that’s the party on which you are casting aspersions.

Um … which party are you talking about

Perhaps Robbie has given a name to all of the people who do things he doesn’t like:
SUV Vandalizers?
Primadonna Newscasters?
Illegal Voters?

All Democrats, I suppose.

My FJ Cruiser got hit by these assholes. Thankfully my insurance is paying for it.

My Camry’s been broken into four times in the past few years, so I know how much it sucks to have a car window broken. I also know it only costs about $200 to have it fixed, and that they’ll literally drive out to wherever you’re parked and fix it right there for you.

You seriously think they deserve to die for $200 of damage?
And they let you buy a gun?
God Bless Texas.

$200 x 200 = $40,000. Yeah, shoot them.

It sort explains the Texas Republican affinity for Saudi Arabian princes:

Death Penalty for vandalism, chop off a hand for shoplifting- we need Saudi Arabia around just so we don’t look like barbarians.

I certainly don’t think it warrants death, but if I had caught the guys who did it you could bet an ambulance AND cop car would need to be called.

Also, my window cost over $700 to repair.

SUV drivers are compensating for undersized brains and weiners.

Paddy:

Or maybe it’s just that I work in movies, have three roommates, move every year, and spend a lot of time in Colorado. I need a car that can fit lots of gear and people and can hold up in bad weather and on shitty roads.

In other words, a compact’s not going to cut it. I have a mid-size, it’s no bigger than an explorer.

Do you rag on people in construction, landscaping, and maintenance? Because they drive trucks that get shitty gas mileage too.

Oh, I forgot: when you coast through life contributing nothing to society it’s easy to be very selective about our moral outrage.

Fuck off and die.

I oppose this kind of vandalism, despite the fact that I think that rich folks who drive SUV’s (and who don’t really need them) are selfish jerks.

But still, shooting at a vandal is insane in this context. Unless a vandal breaks into your garage to do his/her vandalism, I think you are f***ed if you shoot at them. The use of deadly force is not reasonable if you are just protecting property and you would be liable, both in civil damages and in the criminal courts. If you are stupid, selfish and evil enough to do something like this, then I think you’ll be doing many years in jail.

I think that rich folks who drive SUV’s (and who don’t really need them) are selfish jerks.

Wow. And who are you to decide who needs an SUV or not? Or who deserves a car at all (because really, all cars are a huge net negative to our environment, so unless you are walking EVERY WHERE you go, you’re a gigantic hypocrite. But you already knew that. Didn’t you?)

Here…I can play your game, too: I don’t think that Liberal idiots such as yourself deserve their first amendment rights, since they are so blatantly abusing them.

The use of deadly force is not reasonable if you are just protecting property and you would be liable, both in civil damages and in the criminal courts.

The law would disagree with you, J.M. — as you can use deadly force to defend your home. And if my SUV is parked in my driveway, and you come onto my property carrying a rifle (even if it turns out to be a BB gun), and start shooting at my vehicle, under the Castle Doctrine I’m entitled to shoot you dead.

I stand corrected. Under the new (and insane) Texas law, you do have the right to shoot dead people who are attempting to break into your vehicle…

It still is evil though and God will judge you for it IMHO. Unless you are in the car or are otherwise in eminent danger, you have no moral right to use lethal force.

(I should add that I’m not a Texas lawyer, so my opinions are Texas law are purely non-professional.)

There were numerous incidents(years before the Castle Doctrine) of homeowners shooting and killing people breaking into, or attemtpting to steal the wheels from a vehicle, the owner shot and killed them, and the Grand Jury no-billed them. In Texas, a person attemtpting to flee a felony can be shot by an armed citizen.
If these jerks want to effect change, then they need to go to the legislature, and leave lawful citizens, and their property, alone.

I’m an Atlanta resident looking forward to a possible move to Austin, due to its overall “Weird” reputation and great lifestyle. Unfortunately, it looks like Austin has its share of gun-totin’ idiots like Robbie who relish the idea of shootin’ people dead for busting a car window.

The “Castle Doctrine” is dumb and F-ed up, IMHO. Yes, RED Georgia has something similarly shameful. If your life is in danger, fine, but for property only, you goddamn better be aiming for the leg or you’re going to be in for some serious karma as well as justified vigilante retribution.

I guess there are assholes everywhere.

Austin is still pretty weird, well at least South Austin is and parts of Central Austin.

The suburbs have gone to hell as has most of the campus area. Austin was way better in the 1990’s IMHO before the yuppies ruined the place.

They hit again last night in the 78749 area, Karma let’s talk about karma, Karma is getting shot because of being a idiot going around destroying other peoples property, That’s karma, if some idiot wants to shoot at my car or my house, I have every right to stop him, even if it cost him his life. It’s not for me to have to distinguish if they are just trying to vandalize my car, or hurt me.

An attack on me or my property is a attack however you want to slice it, It’s not legal, it’s hurtful, and they initiated it, they made the choice that put them in danger. So if they get shot dead because of the dumb ass thing they felt the need to do, Hey that’s Karma. Texas has one of the lowest gun and violent crime rats in the nation, That’s because we understand our rights to defend ourselves, and the importance of that. If you don’t like it, move back to that place that has high crime, where everyone voted against guns and self defense. Were the criminals feel safe.

As for here, if these folks who have problems with the cars people drive, If they keep it up? Well eventually Karma just may come around to them. When it does don’t just think about your little window they broke and feel sad for them, think about all the windows they broke. That’s a lot of Karma to pay for.

Do I think someone should die for a broken window, No!! but like I said, an attack is what it is, When you are defending yourself from and attack it’s not always clear what the intent of the attack was at the time of the attack. If the cause is so important to attack someone in a violent way, one should understand they could die for that cause

Got something you want to say?
