I have to correct one thing you said.

You referred to scum such as the broad with the 60″ T.V. as “nearly-worthless.” That is wrong. To say she is “nearly-worthless” or even “worthless” would imply that she has a minimalally positive or overall “zero” or no effect on society. She does not. My father worked his fingers to the bone to support his family & make sure we had benefits. These people should be neutered/spayed. While I don’t really approve of much having to do with Sharon Jasper, I will say that the Section 8 housing in New Orleans, not just the projects, are absolute slums. I’m not claiming the place that she is currently staying is like that, but if you live or have lived in New Orleans you would understand the conditions they were talking about. The Napoleonic Code leaves little room for tenant rights and the current shortage of affordable housing (even for middle class people) only seems to further perpetuate this.

Anon, you are making a great point about the Section 8 housing in NOLA being slumlike. If it sucks so badly you’d think people like Sharon would be happy to stay permanently in Houston, Baton Rouge, Atlanta and all the other cities they were evacuated to. Why fight so hard to move back into a system where “the Napoleonic Code” creates such horrific living conditions? Perhaps some of these folks need to be reminded that when you accept a gift (like public housing), you can’t very well complain about the condition (or location) of it.

Jasper IS getting free housing and IS complaining that she might as well be on the streets based on her horrible living conditions….and SHE does have a comfortable home with furnishings and a TV much nicer than those of most WORKING individuals. I have an idea…let’s give her what she asks for…PUT her lazy butt on the street and maybe she can put a new word into her lexicon: JOB. You know, I really do feel sorry for Sharon Jasper. She had to leave her big screen TV and “made for Black People” hardwood floors to come and yell “white boy” at someone wanting to debate her statements. It’s ok for him to let her speak, but when someone wants to debate her, the only thing she can come up with is “shut up white boy”. Now, I don’t know about that individual, but if I were him, I would be very hurt that someone would have the nerve to call me white boy. It may be hard to tell, but that was absolute sarcasm. It makes my stomach turn everyday that I hear the stories of the so called Katrina victims. These people were on welfare before, during and after Katrina-when does it stop!! The government has yet again given them another thing to pay them for by announcing the trailers they are living in for FREE is poisoning them with Formaldehyde!!! Haven’t we learned any lessons. They should have been allowed to live anywhere for 2 months FREE-and then get a damn job!! I am a single mother of two that works two jobs and by gosh I have never taken Welfare, WIC or any other government assistance. I was raised to work hard and that is what I do. These people are not entitled to one damn thing! God sent that hurricane for a reason-but the DEVIL (our government) sure seems to have more control in this situation~!

As for David Andrews, I hate to tell you but the story is REAL, this is a real lady, she has really been on welfare for all of her life but the first 6 months, that is a real picture of her, that is her real apartment, the tv is realy for her. If your plan in life is to sit on the couch and watch your big screen all day while we pay for it, i say fine, on one condition. Mandatory castration as soon as there able to reproduce with youthanasia on there 40th birthday, or Mandatory 20 years service in any one of our fine military branches. I just found this site today and have spent the past hour reading entries.

Anon…Stop crying about the fact that some of your entries don’t get posted. As far as I can tell, this site is privately owned and the owner has the right to sensor whatever he wishes. If you don’t like the way he’s handling the content - leave. It’s you’re right - to choose what blog you use, what channel you watch, and what neighborhood you live in. But, once you’ve made your choice don’t start complaining - much like Jasper and the rest of them that have chosen to live on government funds.

I live on Burgundy Street, in the heart of New Orleans and work in the CBD/French Quarter area. I hear gun shots, once in a while; see the homeless, daily; see the crime; see the blight, and don’t let it ruin my day. Why? b/c I chose to live here and have my own life to worry about.

Where do you live? Is it in the burbs of white America?

If so, don’t get on your high-horse until you see the reality, up and close. This would be as if I wanted to complain about how the residents of China are being treated…I don’t have any right to complain about China b/c I don’t know what it’s like to be there.

I’ll be willing to bet that most of the N.O. Council Meeting’s protesters are on the government teat in one form or another and I can’t blame them. If someone wanted to pay my bills and give me free housing I sure as hell would take them up on it, but I would also know that it all comes with a price. The higher the price the higher the quality of FREE.

I live with the New Orleans Government bringing down our society, as a whole.. you know they are spending $52 million on a new prison/legal park. The prison cells will probably be nicer that my home. Why not have done PM (preventative maintenance). There are N.O. government buildings that have been boarded up for years, way before Katrina. The public housing, the streets, the sewers, etc. have all been neglected for YEARS. This is just the way New Orleans is and until we can get he NAACP out of politics it’s going to stay this way. Did you know they bused in poor black voters for the mayor’s election. Yep, they bused them in on election day from where ever they were and stated that they have the right to vote as registered New Orleans residents even if they don’t live here or ever plan on returning. And yes, I know this is federal issue to - if I was in Germany with a US citizenship I could vote too. NAACP and followers…I bet none of these guys live in the worst parts of New Orleans and visit these areas with heightened security - how, I forgot, they’re not at as much of a risk b/c they help the poor stay poor.

I could go on and on, but don’t have time. I have work to do, so I can pay bills.

And yes, I am a “white boy” that has a real problem with society.

A little late to the debate, but here are my thoughts. I know of landlords that milk the system to built these projects with tax payer dollars. Then they rent them to Section 8 voucher tenants who live in them. As a taxpayer I feel that both the landlords and the tenants are stealing our money. Very few people understand this system and how expensive it is to us, the working people. By the way, we are not solving any problems with this system, the tenants are destructive and demanding, uneducated ( that is where the problem lies), usually cheating the system, hiding income to obtain benefits. There a high degree of crime and violence in this type of housing. The landlords use the system and the building until they can and then …..re-development happensa…more money.
Voters should be aware.

My earliest childhood memories are of living in a government housing project. We were poor, my parents had too many children, and my father did not make much money. We were taught, however, that you stayed in school to better your life, which I did. Though I did not attend college, I worked hard and now make a decent living. It’s not an overnight thing - it’s W-O-R-K, something some welfare recipients do not understand.

Do I resent the type of people shown in the video? Of course I do. I resent our government for allowing them their attitude of “I deserve it” and giving in to Jesse Jackson or Malcolm X on their every whim. If Barak Obama wins the presidency, what do you think our lives will be like? One black leader for the black people.

I am not a racist, I am not a bigot. I just believe that there are too many people taking advantage of the workers of America. Give these non-working, tax draining individuals 1 year of free rent, 1 year of free medical care, 1 year of food stamps, 1 year of job training, then CUT THEM OFF!

If you had a faucet that was dripping and costing you extra money every month on your water bill - would you cut it off? If not, what a fool you are!

It is a shame that welfare has become what it has. Welfare was placed to help people it should not be a way of life or a job. I believe it should has time controls like Unemployment and if you have one kid when you get on, that’s all you get. If this is true, this is another example of people taking advantage. At the same time when even though anyone with any education knows that the constition established the U.S. Treasury under Congress -still you happily pay over 50% of your income to the Treasury “Department” established under the executive branch - do your homework. The Treasury was re-named the General Accounting Office and hidden right under your noses. They broke the bank as soon as they started this welfare called the “The Great Society”. And they put you up for collateral. They complain about thier great grand parents being slaves- they should have done it with a smile like all of us. I grew up in the Mississippi delta where the difference between a share cropper and a slave was about 10%. Most of lost our share cropper status long ago. I get sick of the favorite liberal line; what about the children? What about the children? I didn’t produce these children why should I be responsible for someone else’s lack of ability to keep her legs closed?

When I have to pay in 30% of my hard earned income and then see other able-bodied people swipe a food stamp card at the grocery store, I become very angry.

When I see able bodied people living in tax-payer funded housing, I get angry. When I go to the doctor and see all the young welfare moms with their hordes of kids, I get angry. The government has forcibly taken 1/3 of my income by putting a gun to my head (literally if you think about it) and given it to some idiot that didn’t have enough sense to say no, nor any more morals than a dog has when it’s in heat.

When I hear people gripe about lack of education, I get angry. It’s free to all, but these types of people are the ones that make school bad for everyone. I hear blacks complain about their substandard schools, but as a race, never take the blame for the deplorable conditions. Who tears up their school buildings? Who makes their neighborhoods so dangerous?

It isn’t the white man.

The house that my brother, his wife, and their three children were assigned on post were pathetic. About 1100 sq ft for a family of 5 is very cramped. And everything was run down and just old. Granted, Ft. Jackson is in the process of renovating a lot of their pst housing. But that is no comfort for my brother who has been living in a row house for the last year and a half.]

Come on folks! You have to feel sorry for poor old Sharon. She has to live with that lovely oak flooring and a TV that is way too big for the room she has. If you have done any research on TV size to fit a room, you would know that when viewing a 60″ TV that you need to be something like 18 feet from it. Otherwise you could hurt your eyes. So, how ’bout we all chip in and get her a safe 19 incher to replace this health hazard she has to watch now. And don’t forget, that to power one of these gigantic sets, you need to have stock in your local utility company. A nice little 19″ set requires very little power and maybe the city could better afford to pay her electric bill. I really feel sorry for her. Poor thing! She was raised to be a left wing, lazy, free loading, less than worthless pimple on society and we are all to blame. I wish I could find this lady!!! I am housing assistance. Mine however, does not buy me 52″ tv. I work and am going to college to better myself and get away from help of others. I think we all should write to the New Orlean’s welfare dept, city council, mayor, governor and everyone else. This is horrible. She talks about family members had to leave there and commit crimes other places to support their families. How much you wanna bet that they were criminals before the hurricane and will always be and never get a job because they see how good she has it.
