Here are 2007’s top 10 stories, as voted by AP members:

  1. Virginia Tech shootings
  2. The mortgage crisis
  3. The Iraq War(did the AP forget that we’re fighting in Afghanistan, too?)
  4. Oil Prices
  5. Chinese exporting lead in their toys
  6. Global warming
  7. Minneapolis bridge collapse
  8. Presidential campaign
  9. Immigration debate
  10. Iran going nuclear

All big stories. Don’t agree with the order — I think the amazing and undeniable (by even chief-doubter Harry Reid) achievements we’re making in Iraq is the biggest story of the year. Though, since the MSM is reluctant to actually report good news from Iraq, I’m surprised it’s registered on their radar at all.

After the news that we’re winning in Iraq, I’d place immigration as the next biggest story, as it’s most likely to determine who our next President is.

Global warming is the biggest story that really isn’t a story. Same with oil prices.

The Drunk Expat Writer thinks the biggest story of the year was “the slow breakdown and collapse of young famous women” (Lohan, Paris, the Spears Family, Winehouse and Ritchie). I don’t think it’s that big of story — but if you just go by the raw number of minutes of reporting…these are easily the biggest stories of the year.

One Response to “The AP Top 10 Stories of 2007”

The link is certainly correct- if judged by the hours (days?) of coverage by the networks the hands down story of the year is our national celebrity crisis.

Same as last year, same as next year.

Simple abuse of public airwaves.
