I still buy and listen to a lot of music — I probably purchased 20 albums in 2007, and another 100-or-so singles via iTunes.
I guess I’m getting old (and not just older). Because of the Rolling Stone Top 50 Albums of 2007, I only purchased and/or listened to 3 of them:
- #18 — Lucinda Williams / West
- #26 — Miranda Lambert / Crazy Ex-Girlfriend
- #36 — Alicia Keys / As I Am
Since I don’t listen to the radio almost ever (poor reception on my motorcycle and all…), I’ve never even heard any of the other albums on the list. In fact, I’ve never even heard of many of the artists, either. Including the artists with the top album of 2007.
Here’s the RS Top 10:
- M.I.A / Kala
- Bruce Springsteen / Magic
- Jay-Z / American Gangster
- Arcade Fire / Neon Bible
- Kanye West / Graduation
- Radiohead / In Rainbows
- LCD Soundsystem / Sound of Silver
- Rilo Kiley / Under the Blacklight
- Against Me! / New Wave
- Spoon / Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga
The best album I bought in 2007 was Grayson Capp’s 2006 release Wail and Ride.

I might have said this last year- but I never really had too much in common with Rolling Stone’s opinion so it cushions the blow of my old guy music being called irrelevant.
As it happens I have two of the top ten. I would get the Rilo Kiley album but they aren’t carried on Emusic and I don’t care for itunes much.
