Jay R. Grodner — Anti-Military Chicago Lawyer Vandalizes a Marine’s Car

An anti-military Chicago lawyer, Jay R. Grodner, vandalized the car of Marine Sgt. Mike McNulty to the tune of $2400 in damages simply because he hates the military.

Go read the entire story at Blackfive.

Grodner is likely to get away with it because 1) he’s a fucking shady-ass lawyer, and 2) Sgt. McNulty is being deployed back to Iraq for his second tour and won’t be around to go to court.

I’m sure there are plenty of Chicago-area Marines and Marine Corp Veterans who’d be glad to pay Mr. Grodner a visit to discuss his anti-military views.

I hope that every time someone Googles Grodner’s name when deciding whether or not to hire him, that this story is the first thing that appears…and they decide to look somewhere else.

_______

UPDATE

Well, that didn’t take long. The top two page hits on Google for “Jay R. Groden” are links to Blackfive and Urbangrounds. Hope this eventually costs him many, many thousands of dollars in lost clients.

UPDATE II

Flopping Aces has a follow up to the story from yesterday’s court appearance by Mr. Grodner. It looks like the blog riot was effective and a much more aggressive prosecutor and judge are taking this seriously.

UPDATE III (Jan 3)

The story is picking up steam, and now John Kass at the Chicago Tribune has written about Mr. Grodner. With the appropriate amount of disdain.

UPDATE IV (Jan 21)

Grodner had his day in court. Of course, do did the Marine Corps. It was a very, very bad day for Mr. Grodner.

  2. I tried to call his law offices in downtown Chicago and Deerfield. Both phones have been disconnected.
A quick search via whitepages.com found this:

    Jay R. Grodner
    7725 N Eastlake Terrace
    Apt 3N
    Chicago, IL 60626-1304

    (773) 856-3030

    Mr. Grodner-
I am a retired Viet Nam Veteran and I’m really good with trying to help Jackasses rectify their cranial-anal inversions. Please drop by my blog and leave a comment so that we together can begin to let folks know that you are aware what a complete idiot you are.
I promise, you’ll feel better the moment we get the apologizing started.

(I don’t want to take the time to establish a typepad account. Can someone forward this information to Blackfive?)

  3. Instapundit linked to Blackfive about this without mentioning Jay R. Grodner by name. Even without Instapundit, there would end up being quite a few blog posts about it. But with the Instapundit link — forget about it, Jay R. Grodner. You might have gotten away with it if you hadn’t gotten the police to call your responses “unreasonable.” One can bet that Jay R. Grodner will read these early posts on the subject, they’re the first ones on Google. Jay R. Grodner, Jay R. Grodner, JAY R. GRODNER! (Esquire).

  4. What a piece of crap. The Marine should have “keyed” Grodner for this.
I hope Grodner loses his job, license, and practice for this.

  6. Does this Sgt Michael McNulty have an account opened for this case, because I want to donate 100 USDollars to fight this Jay Robert Grodner.

if he doesn’t have an account setup, I suggest him to open a paypal account or something.

  7. Jay Grodner is as ugly as his actions make him out to be. Here are some pictures I found after googling his e-mail address:

I took the liberty of uploading his pics to imageshack so you don’t have to sign up to that dating site.

  8. One of the greatest benefits to being a Marine or a Soldier, is that no matter where you go or what you do for the rest of your life, you have about a million brothers who will always have your 6.

Mr. Jay R. Grodner would of been wise to consider this: When dealing with Marines or Soldiers…don’t start no shit, there won’t be no shit.

Unfortunately for Mr. Grodner, he started some shit. Let the snowball start.

  9. This shyster is not a deep thinker. If he were, he might well have considered how many state and local politicians are vets, or reservist, including many of his fellow officers of the court that serve on the various JAG staffs. He also didn’t consider how many policemen, firemen, postal workers, resteurant owners and workers, and other small business owners that are vets, or have children or friends that are, or may be serving.
I hope that each day, when some little thing goes badly for him, he will have a doubt or a thought, that maybe his actions caused them. Like getting pulled over, a flat tire, food poisoning, lost laundry, etc.

    /Robbie, check email, please

  10. Nice text on his profile. I’d quote it, here, but it kinda’ makes my tummy hurt just thinking about that particular Jay R. Grodner being a bit of a perv.

The shirtless picture, I could have done without that.

  11. Mr. Jay has been a busy man over the weekend.

His www site http://www.jaygrodner.com – gone
    Telephones – disconnected
Google – up to 1600 hits so far – 99% unfavorable esp. top ones

My guess – after he does his court appearance today (1:30 PM) he will be cowering in a Motel 6 with no one to cover his backside or wash his underwear.

I think he will be looking for a new line of work. Say flipping burgers in Cicero. The plastic surgery alone is going to cost him a fortune. Then there is the name change.

I can’t wait until he explains all this to his family and “friends”. “Just called to say I have a new phone #. Why? It is a long story, but I’m a victim of a vast right wing conspiracy.” Har.

  12. If true, this is a pretty vile case. Gardner should be prosecuted for felony charges.

I don’t support the war or the institution of the military, but it is wrong to attack a servicemember like this. I hope folks remember that 99.9% of anti-war activists like myself think Gardner is a jerk who should be prosecuted too.

  13. I agree JMB- the guy seems like a dick.

However, that doesn’t justify vigilante justice- particularly since there are two factors in the anecdote listed as possible causes for Grodner’s actions- because McNulty was driving the wrong way down the street or that McNulty is in the Marines.

  14. I saw a post at Little Green Footballs that Grodner failed to appear in Court today and that the judge issued a warrant for his arrest. Has anyone heard anything more about this?

  15. Wow. Just google his name now. LOTS of bad press on this scumbag now – not just from this, but his past actions as well. Sweeeeeeet. :D

  24. As a Marine veteran of Vietnam (two tours) I can certainly say that Sgt. Mike McNulty has a brother in me. I certainly will donate if and when a site is set up for Mike.
As for Jay R. Grodner, he’s a pathetic piece of garbage and a COWARD !

  25. I am not in the service and never have been. I would really like to see the war over so our men and women can be back in the States. This is not a matter of servicemen vs. the attorney. It’s right vs. wrong. It’s clear that Jay R. Grodner is an idiot! There is something terribly wrong with our legal system that it cannot protect the rights of Mr. McNulty. Mr. McNulty is not missing the court date because he chooses to. I would be at the courthouse in Chicago during the date and time of this hearing if I lived near Chicago showing my support for Mr. McNulty. Hopefully people will be there showing the judge, etc. that the courts should support the victim and give Mr. Grodner the maximum penalty!

  26. Isn’t it odd how the back-patting AG’s Office considers it “too time consuming” to follow-up on a valid, open complaint of flagrant felony vandalism voiced from a taxpaying citizen (as well as a defender of our nation), but that same AG will no doubt allow thousands and thousands of frivolous, time consuming civil cases to clog our court system day after day because that’s what keeps their fellow lawyers rich, rich, rich beyond their wildest dreams.

Whoever that AG or DA was that made that stupid, narrow-minded and self-serving comment deserves to be disbarred as fast as that mope Grodner should be as soon as he is convicted.

This soldier should be served with a subpoena to appear in court, and the Marine Corps needs to honor that subpoena to allow justice to be served for him here in the United States just as his service in Iraq provides them there with the same.

This outhouse lawyer needs to know that his kind is not above the law simply because he’s a little more adept at playing the game.

    Respectfully Submitted,

An Old US Army Soldier from the ‘Burbs.

  30. I had the honor to serve directly with Sgt Mike McNulty on his first tour. We were in the same infantry platoon together. “Nutty” as he was known by, was at the time our front vehicle 50 cal gunner and attained “sweet revenge” on many an enemy. His extreme courage in combat is second to none. I had the chance to see Mikey on his recent leave and he didn’t even mention this incident to anyone at the gathering. I found out via email. I had to call him to find out if this was all actually about him. It just goes to show what type of person he is – that a guy like Grodner wouldn’t even phase him. This Grodner prick should consider himself blessed to have not met Mikey on the battle field in that godforsaken shithole where WE would have gutted him and fed him his cock before slicing his throat.

  33. If I am not mistaken an active duty Marine is not really even a person, as most citizens are, but instead is property of the United States of America. Since he in belongs to the US Marine Corps, it would not be a stretch to say all of his property belong to the as well. Now this next part gets a little tricky for slimy lawyer types, but if you actively attack and damage property belonging to the government with intent. Would that not be?

“The unlawful use or threatened use of force or violence by a person or an organized group against people or property with the intention of intimidating or coercing societies or governments, often for ideological or political reasons. “

Terrorism. Dictionary.com. The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition. Houghton Mifflin Company, 2004. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/Terrorism (accessed: January 09, 2008).

So if Mr. Grodner is in fact actively engaging in Terrorism against this country, that makes him a Terrorist. Further more, since Mr. Grodner is in fact siding with known enemies of the USA, He is committing Treason. (That is punishable by Death, right.) So, for the sake of all Law abiding Americans, the state of Illinois and the city of Chicago have a moral and legal obligation to protect its citizens for a treasonous terrorist. Throw is butt on a plane to Gitmo, where he can wait for us to try him for treason. I feel sure he can express his anti-military views there to his hearts content.

  34. Some of the comments here are as nutty as Grodner. There is no problem filing this as a misdemeanor as opposed to a felony. It’s not like he is going to be sentenced to prison for keying a car. With the conviction, the court can order full restitution or the requirement that he obey any civil judgment against him. The state bar is not going to disbar any AG for making a discretionary decision. Nor will they disbar Grodner if he cooperates with the bar investigation and their subsequent orders. If he cooperated, most likely he would be suspended for at least a year, ordered to take a professional responsibility course, and ordered to receive psychological counseling.

  35. Grodner is a moron and a hypocrite. He starts out by saying that McNulty thinks he can do whatever he wants because he’s a soldier, then when the situation shifts to a courtroom, he believes he can have his way because he is an attorney. Well, someone needs to tell this moron that justice is blind and he would not have a profession, a home or his daily freedoms if it weren’t for soldiers fighting for this country. The court should allow the case to be continued until McNulty is available for court. Allowing Grodner to manipulate the system would be an outrage. Grodner is a coward who got caught committing a cowardly act and should have to face the consequences of his actions just like any other citizen. I was also amazed at the fact that Grodner quickly played the anti-semite card when the police officer arrived to the crime scene. He is a desperate coward who was backed into a corner and he tried to say he was a victim of prejudice. This guy needs his head examined.

  39. I have to say seeing this many posts supporting one of our boys in green is heartlifting. With all the anti-military/anti-iraq crap in the mainstream media, its sites like this that put faith back into my heart for the average joe american. Its good to see so many taking the time to post and put their support for our troops. With so many anti-military media assholes running the airwaves, you wonder if the would would be able to still take down a guy like Hitler if he reared his head again on this planet. Oh, a guy like that DID, his name was Hussein…And now one more evil-doer is gone thanks to our brave soldiers. Wake up world and get behind our troops, our military and our president.

    Thanks again!
