I don't think John is talking about massacre-style killings. Though deadly, they happen so rarely that the risk is actually very slight.

But fights happen every single day. Do we really want those fights to involve guns?

I am a college student.

As a fellow college student, I completely agree. Teachers? 100% yes. But more people get shot out of a dispute then by a random gunman.

What is to stop someone from having a gun at all? The law can't be there all the time. Better to have someone that is responsible enough to stop them. People like you are the reason it's such a pain to get a CCW. You probably think that the Police have a level of training that the average gun owner could never attain. Guess what, police are people just like me, except they get paid to protect people, whereas I would do it for free. If someone burst into your classroom with an illegally carried/owned weapon and opened fire, wouldn't you be happy that the guy in the back row was legally carrying a concealed weapon and stopped the shooter and kept your head intact?

[...] Colorado New Life Church shooting was stopped due to the presence of an armed volunteer security guard who fought back (saving up to 100 lives, according to her pastor).
I'd argue this point further if there was ever a doubt in my mind that gun-free zones would ever, ever go away, but they're not going to, so eh, whatever.

I think the case has been made for banning “gun free” zones.

I couldn't agree more.

I would say the case for Concealed Handgun Licenses has been made, with forty of the fifty states having adopted them, most are "shall issue licenses." I think the case has been made for banning "gun free" zones.
