My very favorite pictures from Iraq are of US military personnel sitting in Saddam’s chair in one of his palaces:

Soldier in Saddam's chair

Lt. James Aalan Bernsen, an Austin mil-blogger currently in Iraq with the U.S. Navy, wrote:

This is a throne given to Saddam Hussein as a gift by Yasser Arafat, the Palestinian terrorist who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. At least Al Gore never paid people to hijack airplanes…would have required too many carbon offsets.

(Notice in the middle is a model of the Dome of the Rock, the Al Aqsa Mosque in Jeruselem. You can also see the stains from all the Sweaty GIs who have taken a break from the rigors of war by kicking back on the deposed dictator’s throne.)

Here’s Lt. Bernsen in Saddam’s chair:

Think about what these pictures represent.

Think about what it would mean if Islamic jihadis, with AK-47s in hand, were posing for souvenirs pics in the Oval Office…

I can’t imagine what Saddam would have done to anybody stupid enough to sit in his chair without permission. I can’t imagine that a woman — an unveiled woman no-less — had ever sat in that chair before the US military showed up:

Like SPC Liz Martin:

Or this female Soldier:

Or this Army Captain:

Or this Army Specialist:

Or this Marine:

Or these two Soldiers:

  1. I was with you until here:
I can’t imagine that a woman — an unveiled woman no-less — had ever sat in that chair before the US military showed up:

The Baath party was secular and Saddam ruled with little mention of Islam until after the Gulf war. Women did far better in Iraq than other Arab nations (one of the few things justifying the US alliance with Iraq in the 1980′s)

So- you’re probably right that a woman hadn’t sat in the throne but I wouldn’t chalk it up to Islam.

  2. Henh…he’s USN with camo and a black rifle? Must be a SEAL.
Yeah, the UN Oil for Food Palaces program was quite prolific.
As for the young SPC sitting on Soddom’s chair, I can only hope she is in her menstrual cycle, as well as being unveiled. That will make the few remaining Al Qaida foreign fighters heads pop.

  3. Too bad Saddam is dead. He made a great ruler, compared to what it has become.

  4. Henh.
Yeah, South Park hasn’t been the same since Soddom checked out.
Not to mention what a talented musician he was.
I take it Blado has the BDS, cause the Iraqi people certainly don’t agree that he was a good ruler(or protractor).

  5. These pictures are awesome!! They speak volumes of what our Country STANDS for: FREEDOM!
I only wish Saddam could have seen these before he bit the big one-ESPECIALLY the two photos of FEMALES in his beloved chair. : )

Whenever I go back and look at historical pics like these, It makes me so PROUD that we live in such a great country, and whoever talks down on our country OR our President should have to LEAVE and go live in places like THIS!

(That’s what FREEDOM means though, and it is a great thing we all take for granted)

  6. Arafat won the nobel price and therefore he is respected by this world population, except usa and israeli. This chair was a present to saddam and i don’t like it that worthless soldiers pose in this chair. What if they would have put George Emptyhead Bush a rope around his neck and took seat in his oval office chair?Feeedom? (Barb Morris), don’t make me laugh, Great country?pfff, a guy like George Emptyhead Bush that got his presidency by support from the Oil Companies and starts a sinless war to give them the black gold Iraq has isn’t worth kicking to death, only losers here, biting the dust, fighting in a part of the world that is far away from their homes, get out there, you can’t change this world, change your own hometowns

  7. You guys (including the lovely people in the photos) are all missing the point . These photos and post are supposed to represent something.

I am fotunate enough to know what that is. Let me Tell You !

This chair is supposed to represent that, the American and British forces (including all those poor recruits and civilians, men, women and children who lost their lives as well as Saddam Hussain and his family members- whether right or wrong) THE JEWISH REGIME, (who is responsible for most of the turmoil in this world, today), has used the west to do their dirty work, yet again.

It is a shame that the armies of the western world are too nieve to see this. And if that is not the case i.e. they are not nieve, then they have intentionally slaughtered all those killed – i.e. They have done it on purpose.

It is not worth making remarks at the soldiers/Soldieresses (Well..I am not a sexist) in the photographs, because you have to put this whole chair thing into context.

    1) Most of the army recruits are young.
    2) Uneducated thats why they joined the army in the first place.
    3) Because of the western Media they feel they have accomplished something.
    4) Its a nice chair I would be tempted to sit in this too.

So all you muslims out there please dont blame these soldiers it is not their intention to offend, they dont know any better.

  8. For you Peter Moore, These are not “worthless soldiers” These are brave individuals that are fighting for their beliefs, countries, families, loved ones and Freedom!! I love that they have stopped and taken photos of each other in this chair..it symbolizes something!! Something far greater than a person like you with such a closed mind could ever recognize!! My sister is in the ARMY fighting for everything that she holds sacred!! She has a picture of herself and others in this chair and when I saw it, I knew that meant alot to her!! And her friends!! If you don’t like it, why don’t you crawl in your own little hole and leave the rest of the world alone! Before you go bashing every soldier, remember these men and women are fighting for you too!!

  9. Barb Morris !! you are such an empty head !! why bother about other countries whether they live free or not .. freedom has a different concept everywhere !! why do people have to look at freedom the same way you see it !! and what freedom are you talking about !! people in Iraq don’t feel safe any more asswholes !!!! you just made things worse .. I HATE AMERICA

  10. i think you are Bush’s dankies.
