Fred Thompson Drops out of Race

Damn.

“Today I have withdrawn my candidacy for President of the United States. I hope that my country and my party have benefited from our having made this effort. Jeri and I will always be grateful for the encouragement and friendship of so many wonderful people.”

I knew it was inevitable — but it still sucks.

Besides Duncan Hunter (who has also withdrawn), Fred Thompson was the GOP’s best bet to return to classic conservatism. Now we’re left with two liberals in GOP clothing (McCain and Romney) to choose from. We might as well go ahead and vote for Hillary.

It will be interesting to see if Fred even bothers to endorse anybody else in the race, as all three of the remaining likely candidates (throw in Huckabee for shits and giggles) are miles away from Fred ideologically.

The other important thing to consider is where to Fred Heads throw their support now that their guy is out?

Me? I don’t know. It certainly won’t be Huckabee, though. I’d rather Ron Paul win the nomination than Huckabee. And Ron Paul is seven kinds of crazy.

I sure hate to see this, and am actually quite surprised, but not sure why. He never seemed that enthusiastic about his campaign from the beginning, whenever that was, with his halting entrance. While he finished third in SC, his numbers were better, and I thought he would do even better in Florida. I have no idea about his funding. Maybe that’s what it comes down to, a battle of attrition, with the best funded candidate winning out. Which, at this point, seems likely, and I would favor that if it means McCain will eventually get sent packing.
I really don’t agree with the assessment so many have of Mike, even though I have some concerns, at least I know he really does have a record of cutting taxes, unlike Romney, he really is pro-gun, unlike all the remaining candidates, he really is pro-life and pro-family, unlike the other remaining candidates, he really is good at handling a crisis, as judged from the way he provided for so many Katrina evacuees. Mike has no experience in military or diplomatic matters, and his inexperience has shown on the campaign, but none of the other candidates do either, as McCain is just a big government liberal with a bad temper. W had limited military and diplomatic experience when he took office, but he really stepped up when he was needed.
While I will vote for the GOP nominee, as I have said numerous times, with the exception of McCain, at this point Mike is my guy. I disagree that he isn’t a conservative, based on my examination of his record.

As I predicted a few days ago. Not that I’m happy about it.

From here on it’s Romney all the way for me. Sadly, McCain will probably take the nomination. If he does take it, I may actually consider not voting. I dislike him that much.

Fred faked us. Why? I don’t know unless it was a straight ego trip. Anyway, he can go off into obscurity and enjoy his young wife.

No one to vote for now except “anyone but a Dem”. McVain is pure nuts. Romney will be another Bush(rino-socialist-globalist). No veterans other than McCain. Duncan Hunter was my really only choice.

Sheee-yite!! Guess I will leave the primary choice blank, vote in the lesser offices and vote for the GOP candidate in the general election.

My bud posted this on his blog last night.
I haven’t heard anyone confirm or deny it, or even discuss it, what little news I was able to see/hear today.
If it’s true, and I really don’t have any doubts about Carl Cameron’s reporting, then Fred committed fraud by soliciting and accepting donations for a Presidential campaign, as well as the consideration of time for all of the volunteers that worked for his election.
