From the Houston Chronicle:

New plan aims to give freshmen a fighting chance — A new set of guidelines is aimed at reducing the number of Texas freshmen who show up at university campuses unprepared to handle the classwork.

A plan to prepare kids to handle college classwork? We used to call it “high school”.

AUSTIN — Texas took the first step today toward setting standards aimed at reducing the embarrassingly high number of college freshmen who arrive on campus unprepared to do the work.

[Snip]

The new strategy’s adoption comes at a time when more than half of the entering freshmen at Texas colleges and universities need remedial courses, which don’t count toward a degree. Educators hope the sweeping set of standards ensures that more students earn bachelor’s degrees, and in less time.

Pathetic.

I’d like to know how much this program is going to cost me? The money’s got to come from somewhere, and I’m guessing it’s taxes.

The cost of the program should come out of the pockets of school administrators and teachers who are failing this kids.

Got something you want to say?
