Nas and Kelis — Flaunt’n the Nigger Shirt

Nas and his nigger shirtI’m not sure which I find more offensive. Nas and Kelis’s t-shirts with “Nigger” proudly (ignorantly?) emblazoned on them…or Kelis’ pants.

(That’s a rhetorical question, as the obvious answer is “the pants”.)

Actually — I’m not offended by the shirts at all. It’s just a word. Of course, I’m not black either, so what do I know?

UPDATE (July 22, 2008) — Nas back in the news for putting together a petition with over 600,000 signatures calling on the network to “stop its racist smears against the Obamas and other Black Americans.”

Hey kettle — you’re fucking black. If anybody is guilty of using “racist smears”, I’m going to go with “The guy wearing the nigger shirt.”

I like what he did…sure it may offend some people…it just seem like racism is a thing of the past of whites and we deal with this everyday…I was born in the 80s and I’ve been called Nigger & Nigga

Everyone is ignorant to other races…we get images from TV, and in a sense thats how we view them

Heres a key example you see a crew of white dude late teens dressed in baggy jeans and timbs…you think…they likes rap music…or trying to be black…not really a threat…

you see a black dudes dressed the same way…hum…could be some gangstas, some drug dealers, some rappers, possibly an athlete…danger alert

Ive been a victim of the purse clutch in the elevator…and i was glad that white lady was scared…because if just my presence makes you cringe…that you deserve it!!

you see a white dude in a suit…you think…nothing…

you see a black man in a suit…he’s an important dude…not just a regular black guy…but a black guy with class and style…its the images that the media portrays…

Nas is smart…i just hope his efforts are not just some speech but hands on like John Brown did in the 1800’s…now that white dude promoted CHANGE, he is the seed of the Civil Rights movement…if you really wanna get into it

Its funny how African Americans seem to be the only race of people that does not have control our image. WE are the only race in which corporate America can market a racial slur to our community and convince us that is ok to be called anything but who we really are.

The media has created an array of falsehood images that continues to attack our community. Why do we settle? Seems to me like the oppressor still has control over us…just can’t seem to get away from that slave mentality. Masta told us we some niggers..so thats what we gonna be!!! I have not witnessed any other race proud to wear apparel degrading their ethnicity.

A Jewish person will never wear a shirt that says “KYKE”, A Chinese person will never wear a shirt that says “CHINK”, and a White person will never wear a shirt saying “CRACKER” or “HONKEY”. These racial slurs are not marketed images nor used by their own people and other races to identify them. HMMM… wonder why??? I

I think it is time to wake up and take control black people.

ashley tolliver, it is a black man who wanted to name his album nigger and a black man who wore the shirts and are selling them. I know a lot of white people who have and will wear shirts with honkey and cracker on it. dont blame non-blacks for promoting a racial shirt when the non-blacks did not wear them or sell them. you can get these at a site owned by a black man

also how many black men (I would say at least 75 percent) go all around day calling each other “niggas” it is done all the time and it said in front of white people everyday. the word nigga is used hundreds of times more everyday than a white person uses it. most blacks use the word nigga prb. 50 times a day. wake up and smell the coffee.

I’m sorry but I’m white and I DO have a shirt that say’s cracker.
Somehow to me this seems just a little diffrent. I do not take offense to being called a cracker the way people do to “N” and they should be offended!!
