Fidel Castro and Che GueveraApparently the big news of the day (as reflected by the noise level at Memeorandum) is that Fidel Castro has resigned as President of Cuba:

HAVANA, Cuba (CNN) — Fidel Castro announced his resignation as president of Cuba and commander in chief of Cuba’s military Tuesday, according to a letter published in the state-run newspaper, Granma.

The resignation ends nearly a half-century of iron-fisted rule that inspired revolutionaries but frustrated 10 U.S. president.

To which I say, “So what?”

Someone let me know when the guy is really dead, though. I’ll do a little happy dance in celebration.

But for now? Feh. Same as it ever was, as expressed so eloquently by someone over at Babalu Blog said in this post:

“Much ado about nothing. What does this change? Nothing. Cubans are still oppressed, the island is still a hell hole and the man in command still bears the last name (c)astro. All this means nothing.”

While I’m sure this means that the pro-Castro community in Hollywood will be put on suicide watch, there’s no word yet of the reaction from Barack Obama’s Houston HQ.

Heh. I’m sure they’ll be still by flying their Cuban flag — in solidarity with Fidel the Oppressor.

Say what? Fidel Castro resigns as Cuban President…

Drudge is red and Fox is breaking in.

HAVANA (Reuters) - Ailing Cuban leader Fidel Castro said on Tuesday that he will not return to lead the country, retiring as head of state 49 years after he seized power in an armed revolution.

So is that how it …

His resignation isn’t enough. When I know he is backstroking down the river Styx with Che and Satan, then I will acknowledge good news.

Got something you want to say?
