The moment I heard Sen. Barack Obama utter this during the Austin debate, I called bullshit:
And as a consequence, they didn’t have enough ammunition, they didn’t have enough Humvees. They were actually capturing Taliban weapons, because it was easier to get Taliban weapons than it was for them to get properly equipped by our current commander in chief.
Wow. A platoon, missing a third of it’s men, and without sufficient ammo, weapons, or Humvees somehow was still able to kick Taliban-ass (and take their weapons from them).
The hand-to-hand combat techniques being taught to our Soldiers today is fucking awesome. Either that or the Taliban are complete pussies.
Or both.
There are a lot of military guys, some who have or are — unlike Sen. Obama — actually serving in Afghanistan, debunking this tripe. One of my favorite comes from Deebow over at BlackFive:

I want everyone to notice that my issued M-4 is hanging on the mirror of my UP Armored Hummer. I am about 20 feet away and I have my M-9 Pistol with me. I also have my basic load of ammo, as does Capt. Jack, who is in the turret. That is my new issued Kevlar helmet in the hood.
And for you KISS mafia types (Keep It Super Safe out there soldier), I put my helmet back on after I snapped this and carried my M-4 the rest of the entire day.
The mounted gun is a MK-19 Grenade Launcher and inside the truck is an M-249 Squad Automatic Weapon, an M-240-B Machine Gun, 4 Claymore mines, 10 Fragmentation Grenades, 12 Smoke Grenades of various colors, Parachute flares, star clusters etc.
In that gun-truck, I had enough ammunition for a basic load for each of those weapons, fuel to get me halfway to Islamabad, food and water for 3 days for 2 men, and enough other miscellaneous equipment to start a small war…
Lucky for me, I was in a place I could do and was expected to do that very thing.
Which brings me to the beginning of my point about how Barack Obama is complete idiot for opening up his pie-hole about something he obviously knows nothing about…
Brilliant!

Of course this story was verified by Jake Tapper of ABC.
[Editor --- yeah, and The New Republic fully vetted Scott Beauchamp. And even confirmed the story with some other Soldiers in his company. And then the light was shined on the story and it fell apart. Even though the actually military guys already knew it was bullshit. The ammo story has already been debunked and admitted to be a lack of ammo during some training. And, while some HUMVEES were not uparmored back in 2004, it does not represent the truth of the situation on the ground today, which is what Obama implied.]
Well, I can understand your hesitation about the anonymous attribution even if it is perfectly reasonable for the Captain to keep his name unknown.
As it happened, as this story was breaking out, it was quietly verified by other interviews with soldiers in Afghanistan:
I understand it might be difficult to digest the fact that this President talks a big game but repeatedly fails to address crucial national security issues. Afghanistan is just one on the list.
[Editor --- this is a joke of a statement, right? Because the one thing that President Bush has accomplished is precisely keeping American's safe from terror attacks. Unless I missed the headlines since 9/11 about those other attacks that al Qaeda promised they would carry out on your country.]
