Orange RibbonUn-fucking-believable.

We’re a nation at war. Against Muslim terrorists and radical (but yet, somehow still pretty-damned mainstream) Islam.

During times of war, throughout American history, there have been some pretty common ways to show your support and solidarity with our military: wearing flag lapel pins, putting up blue and gold star flags in your homes and on your vehicles, or, in more recent history, ribbons supporting the troops and their mission.

But don’t look for any flag lapel pins in Hollywood (or on leading Democratic Presidential candidates). Don’t look for any yellow ribbons on their stretch limos or on their tuxedo lapels.

All the rage this year in Hollywood is wearing an orange ribbon. To show their solidarity with the terrorists being held at Guantanamo. That’s right. The fucking terrorists. Not our troops whom these terrorists have killed or tried to kill. But with the terrorists:

The hot fashion accessory [at Sunday’s Oscar ceremony] was apparently orange ribbons and bracelets in solidarity with terrorist suspects in Guantanamo:

Out on the red carpet, Paul Haggis (the director whose “Crash” won Best Picture in 2006) said he didn’t know what accounts for all these deeply dark, brooding, troubled films. But isn’t it obvious, he asked, flashing an orange ribbon on his lapel. Orange, why orange? “It’s Guantanamo,” his Max Azria-clad wife, Deborah, said, showing off her orange bracelet, which read: “Silence + torture = complicity.” Suddenly, we noticed — orange ribbons and bracelets everywhere.

As I said before: un-fucking-believable.

Libertas adds:

Am I alone in thinking it’s reasonable to call into question the patriotism of those who intentionally lie about their country to make it look bad? When people strut around bleeding their hearts over our enemies who are not tortured, but are in fact treated so well Michael Moore wishes we had their healthcare I’m gonna go out on a limb thinking they may not like America.

You’re not alone. You bet your ass I question the patriotism of these hate- and blame-America-first asswipes.

Haggis has to be the most leftist and anti-American screenwriter in Hollywood. I try to avoid most of what he churns out.

I’d like a list of everyone wearing an orange ribbon/bracelet if you’ve got it.

[Editor --- I know Julie Christie wore one, too (though I have no idea who she actually is). But only because the orange ribbon didn't contrast too horribly with the her deep wine red, ruched, knee-length dress.]

[Why does Israel hate America?]

Sixty-four percent of Israelis say the government must hold direct talks with the Hamas government in Gaza toward a cease-fire and the release of captive soldier Gilad Shalit. Less than one-third (28 percent) still opposes such talks.

The figures were obtained in a Haaretz-Dialog poll conducted Tuesday under the supervision of Professor Camil Fuchs of Tel Aviv University.

According to the findings, Israelis are fed up with seven years of Qassam rockets falling on Sderot and the communities near Gaza, as well as the fact that Shalit has been held captive for more than a year and a half. An increasing number of public figures, including senior officers in the Israel Defense Forces’ reserves, have expressed similar positions on talks with Hamas.

It now appears that this opinion is gaining traction in the wider public, which until recently vehemently rejected such negotiations.

The survey also showed that Likud voters are much more moderate than their Knesset representatives. About half (48 percent) support talks with Hamas.

In Kadima, 55 percent are for talks, while among Labor voters, the number jumps to 72 percent.

Thanks! Julie Christie:

Robbie- you understand that it’s not their status as (accused) terrorists that wins sympathy it’s the indefinite detention without appeal to the legal process.

Pat- it’s a great point- for an American politician to be seen as ‘pro-Israel’ he has to be on the farthest right minority of Israeli opinion.

Strange.

“I am glad that the general feeling in the American Jewish community is that the Likud expresses the real patriotic Zionist position,” he added. But support for the state was broader then that, Edelstein said.

“In the complex situation of the Middle East, to be pro-Israel is not just to say that you are in favor of a secure and flourishing state of Israel. It is to take a stand on our battle with terrorism and terrorists and to realize that in this battle there are good guys and bad guys, and it is not shameful to be on the same side as the good guys,” Edelstein said.

Carl In Jerusalem.
What a pathetic job of reporting from Haaretz, they say 64% percent of Israeli’s, which implies they polled each and every Israeli citizen. BS. They don’t include the size of the N or their methodology. As useless as a poll can get, one clearly intended to achieve the result it got.
As for the fictional country of Palestine, it has never existed, except in the twisted and deluded minds of some.
This does an excellent job of explaining What Really Happened In The Middle East.

As for the Hollyweird types wearing terrorist ribbons, big effing deal. Another of those knock me over with a feather moments. They are just hedging their bets, hoping that the terrorists will spare them, at least until last, all the while knowing that in this country you can say any absurd thing you want without fear of reprisal. Except for not buying tickets to their performances, of course, which I haven’t done in almost twenty years.

Got something you want to say?
