From the Belmont Club, on the Arab world’s embrace of Sen. Barack Obama:
There are two ironies here. The first is that while Barack Obama has gone out of his way to say that he is ‘not a Muslim’, in a wider sense the Muslims have taken him into their bosom. An acquaintance, writing from Jakarta says the same feeling is pretty strong over there too. While in America he projects the image of rallying America he simultaneously conveys the impression of being on the side of the Arab too.
The other irony of course is that the Arab attraction for Obama is potentially at odds with the Arab desire for a powerful America which can contain Iran. So far Obama has managed the remarkable feat of being all things to all men, even men who are mortally opposed to each other. What happens when he has to come down on one side or the other?
Glenn Reynolds thinks that “someone will be disappointed.” I have an uneasy feeling that it won’t be the Arabs left feeling quite as disappointed as the rest of us.
This does fly in the face of my “Obama is an apostate” theory…but the alternative is even more troubling…

Holy shit, you mean it’s possible to look out for the interests of two ethnic groups? Sweet merciful christ!
[Editor --- The interests of the Islamic world and the interests of Western culture are not compatible. Westerners and Muslims simply do not agree on the basics of social order and don’t want to live under the same rules.
The Arab world is "interested" in the annihilation of Israel. The Arab world is "interested" in imposing Sharia law. Everywhere. The Arab world is "interested" in using people with Downs Syndrome as human bombs.
Frankly, I'm not interested in finding common ground with any of these "interests".]

And yet you spend so much time telling us that we are in Iraq for the benefit of Iraqi people.
If elected, he better be damn careful on this one. I’m not at all impressed by their endorsement or the endorsement of marxists like Daniel Ortega. However, I am glad all these things are coming to the front and I hope the people of this country are noticing and thinking about it. I doubt the MSM will even bring it up though.
The debates between Obama (presuming he’s the nominee) and McCain ought to be real interesting.
[Editor --- I hope the very first question that Sen. McCain asks Obama is, “How and why do you think you are more qualified to command our US military than I am?â€
Because there is only one honest answer: He’s not.]
It’s an amazing thing to watch. Nobody is saying any of this on the mass media (other than in some blogs, which isn’t very mass). I have a feeling that the Obama campaign has figured that he will continue to be shielded from any serious scrutiny by the political correctness of the rest of us. Nobody wants to be called a racist on TV in this campaign, and so it all just slides right on. If Hillary doesn’t start bringing up the tough questions, she’ll be left in the dust, and if we don’t wake up soon, we’ll end up with a VERY wrong man sitting in the Oval Office.
You’re missing the point. It doesn’t sound like many of you have lived in a Muslim country before. I have and I’m also a deeply committed Christian. You’re seeing the Arab World through the eyes of Fox News.
The Arab people and Muslim world aren’t one-in-the-same either. Bangaldesh, Malaysia, Indonesia, Uganda. These people aren’t Arabic.
The people that live in these parts of the World and in the Middle East ARE HUMAN. They love, they cry, they eat, they sleep, they know the difference between cruelty, justice, truth…all of these things. But they also live under repressive government, and religious leaders that prey on their lack of education.
Where there is an absense of information, the religious leaders fill with ideology. It happens everywhere. Even here.
We DO have compatible interests with these countries. They want peace. They want education. They want a voice in the world. The poor of these countries are rarely heard.
The Arabic world loved Bill Clinton. Did you know that? They want an American leader who will listen first instead of judging first. Who will respect their religion, visit their country, kiss their babies, shake their hands and show the world they’re not monsters, but capable of being respected members of the International Community.
Please stop demonizing these people. Yes, they’re racked in corruption and problems. But so are we, so is China, so is Russia.
i cant believe the stupidity on this webite. muslims are not the enemies of christians niether are arabs the enemies of america. it is fundamentalists that are the problem. i am a christian but nearly all my friends are muslim, we have been friends for many years. it is possible to live in peace, stop taking the cowardly easy route of intolerance and stop watching fox news!
At first I thought you were just another dhimmi douche bag, but when you made the above statement, you proved you are just another appeasing liberal.
The radical muslims base their actions on actual verses in the koran, they aren’t making it up. Try this on your many muslim friends, I have. See if they will specifically criticize another muslim in front of a muslim, not a dhimmi like you, for anything, such as a muslim terrorist attack. If they are a bona fide, five times a day headbanger, they won’t. They will say things like “I condemn any act of terrorism,” or some such benality, but not a direct criticism of another muslim. They don’t want to be labeled with takfir, or worse yet, a kaffir.
If you think the koran is all peace and love, you need to wake your ass up…pronto. If it’s so peaceful, then why have there been over 12,650 muslim terrorist attacks since 9-11?
