In the March 4 GOP primary here in Texas, my representative, Mike McCaul, is running uncontested in Texas District 10.

However, there are two other district races in which I’m extremely interested — even though I can’t vote in them.

House District 14 — This is Rep. Ron Paul’s district. While Rep. Paul has been running for President, his hometown constituents have been seeing a side of Rep. Paul that they never knew. And they’re not happy.

I’m hoping that Chris Peden, who is currently leading Rep. Paul in most polls by as much as 10 points, can unseat Rep. Paul.

Peden, 36, is challenging Paul for the seat in the 14th Congressional District, which runs down the Gulf Coast almost from Port Arthur to Port Aransas.

With no Democrat in the race, the winner of the Republican primary is exceedingly likely to be the district’s next congressman.

Pual was first elected to the seat in 1976. He skipped a term in 1978-79, but he’s held the office ever since.

It’s time for a change to an actual conservative Republican. Not a Libertarian who votes with the GOP a bottom-of-the-barrel 74% of the time.

House District 22 — Perhaps the state’s most conservative district was lost to Dem. Nick Lampson last year when Tom Delay stepped down. Shelley Sekula Gibbs ran against Lampson and lost by 10 points in the general election.

Gibbs is one of 10 candidates vying for the seat. I’m not all that enthused about her candidacy, as she couldn’t beat Lampson last time.

Of the 10 candidates, I’m looking closest at throwing my support behind Kevyn Bazzy, a Major in the Army Reserves.

With the dirty political past of District 22, I believe that what this district needs more than anything else is a person of honor and integrity.

I believe Kevyn Bazzy might be that man.

I’m working on a breaking piece about one of the other candidates, Pete Olson, and his ties with former Majority Leader Tom Delay, former Congressman Randy Cunningham, and former Super Lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

The last thing the District 22 GOP candidate needs is ties to Jack Abramoff. Corruption already cost us the seat in 2006.

I’ll have more about why I’m supporting Chris Peden and Kevyn Bazzy in the days to come.

  1. You should read the Galveston paper’s endorsement of Peden. They are quite explicit in saying that they like him because he will bring more pork projects to Galveston. Yep, you’re right; he does sound more like a typical Republican than Ron Paul. I think your polling information is wrong however, I’ve heard that Paul is leading. Sorry to disappoint you.

[Editor --- You should read the Victoria Advocate piece endorsing Chris Peden. Look, Paul brought home the bacon too: Ron Paul, the man who touts himself “the taxpayer’s best friend”, earmarked $537,000 solo - a modest sum by comparison. However, in concert with others, Paul earmarked a not-so-modest $27,000,000. That is more than 170 other members of the House. So, it's not like he's adverse to signing earmarking legislation. Hell, Paul brought home $8 million for a Wild American Shrimp Marketing campaign requested by the Texas Shrimp Association in his district.]

  2. Besides, PK, the paper is not “the people” of District 14. Their reasons for wanting Paul out are not necessarily why the voters of District 14 want Pal out of office.

One such reason is that the folks of District 14 are exceptionally pro-military. They support not only the troops, but their mission as well.

Dr. Paul does not. Chris Peden does:

We must continue to support our brave troops serving in Iraq, Afghanistan, and everywhere duty calls. We must fight Islamo-fascists abroad rather than fight them at home. As your congressman, I will be dedicated to giving our military the resources they need to fight the battle against the jihadists who wish to destroy our way of life because they abhor freedom, democracy, and liberty. America has been and will continue to be a beacon of light in a dark world; we must not waver and we can not fail to defend ourselves in a dangerous world.

Chris Peden believe in supporting Israel. Dr. Paul thinks we should leave them to the wolves that want to annihilate them.

That’s enough difference to me to throw Paul out and elect Chris Peden.
