Emily Kate Janes, 23, of La Porte, is charged with having an improper relationship with an 18-year-old boy, a second-degree felony, prosecutors said. A criminal complaint was filed against her Monday.
Yeah, it’s wrong for her to have sex with a former student — but the kids isn’t exactly a kid. At least not legally. He’s 18. And she’s only 23.

If convicted, she faces between two years and 20 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine. She also is eligible for probation.
It was probably also her last teaching job. And probably the end of her marriage. But no way should a 23-year old woman be going to jail for having consensual sex with an 18-year old guy.
Was he not a student when they had consensual sex? Then she broke the law. There are numerous policy reasons for having laws like this on the books.
Get this shit… the kid is my friend’s son. Not mentioned, she was dating another (younger) student prior to the one referenced in this article.
My friend asked me how I thought he should handle this with his son. My thoughts? Even though there isn’t a major ick-factor involved (he’s a legal adult, they’re not many years apart), he should be held responsible for his actions too… maybe not legally, but something! He knew she was married and he knew it was wrong.
Not at all excusing what this floozy did… but adult-students are still adults, and I don’t think he should get away without reprimand. Your thoughts?
I think she should lose her job, just as Bill Clinton should have lost his, the situations are very similar. But assuming she hasn’t perjured herself that should be the end of it.
She should thank her lucky stars she wasn’t working in Williamson county.
With him being legal age and the age difference only 4 years….the main problem is that she was married ….and he knew it….and I guess she didn’t care.
If her marriage ended and she lost her job, I wouldn’t feel sorry for her….and he needs to be a lot more selective next time.
For the same reasons that officers can’t be fucking the enlisted women, teachers can’t be fucking students even if they are 18 years or older. You need order in the classroom. It is the law . She broke it.

They were both wrong. It was two adults making conscious decisions and now having to live with the choice they have made. Losing her job, possibly career and ruining her marriage is enough punishment.
Latest update: The DA just contacted the family this morning and wants to offer her a plea… and wants the family’s blessing.

I think that the family should not accept a plea. I think she will get off too easy. They should make her pay for this regardless of the age of the student…it is wrong. Now if she messed with another younger student and it is true, then that kid needs to have the balls to come forward. People like her need to be punished instead of getting a slap on the hand. She is supposed to be a role model for these kids, not just a piece of ass. I’m sure these high school kids don’t mind, but where are her priorities? She obviously did not think about her husband or her future. Maybe she is just that dumb! I’m sure this makes her mom and dad proud.

he was a former student, so yea she cheated on her husband with a younger man. so have a lot of people. she wasn’t teaching him at the time so legally there shouldn’t be any punishment. but people are gonna boo hoo that he once was. he wasn’t 15 years old( that would have been wrong) he was 18, legal age, and he made the decision as well. so i think people need to understand that he made a decision too, i don’t know them but come on, if he was a regular 18 year old and she was a regular 23 year old, you would be slapping him on the back and telling him good job but jeez throw in the fact that they met at school at one point then oh no its a crime. funny that people think its ok for a 18 year old female to hook up with a 70 year old man but something like this isn’t. i know i know I’m gonna get a lot of hate mail, one I’m a 20 year old female so no I’m not some guy saying go man. nastiness isn’t gonna make me change my mind. i mostly think that parents need to understand that there kids are gonna make a decision whether or not they approve so you can blame everyone else around them. blame your kid, blame the lady but don’t pull some shit that he was young and innocent. she didn’t rape him he did it on his own terms so…. read it, hate it do what you want with it.

She was his TEACHER!!! Who cares about the small gap of age difference? And even if he was not her student when they had sex, how does this make it right? TEACHERS DO NOT HAVE SEX WITH THEIR STUDENTS! Did she check out of the lesson about having not having sex with your students in educator prep? What makes this worse, is that she is married. In addition to that, she is so young and her reputation, and career are over! Rightfully speaking, this woman will never teach in a public school again.

actually im a student at deer park high school and i know Nolan and at the time they started messing around he was seventeen not eighteen. ya hes stupid for doing it but what teenage boy wouldnt sleep with his teacher, who all the boys thought was hot ,to go around looking like the big shot. She knew she was taking advantage of things with a kid far too young for her… Dirty dirty dirty. both of them are.
she just looks like a hoochie teacher. why would they hire a teacher so close to the age of her students? i would say be more realistic and put her in a 3rd grade class but i think we’d end up with another michael jackson type case!
Mrs. Janes was my teacher and i know for a fact she was always making advances towards several “cuter boys” in my class. There was one incident when she pulled her pants down and showed a few male students her tatoo of an apple under her belt. I think she should have gotten the maximun punishment. Besides that.. she dressed like a whore.. i wasn’t even allowed to wear clothes like that.

when she got hired on, she never acted like that, all the guys that thought she was hot & kept pressuring her to hang out with them after schools hours at a restaurant, and to go to their baseball games or football games (every teacher pretty much did, but they wanted her esp). yea ill admit her lust took over…but still she was my 11th grade teacher and my homeroom teacher. and im sorry if i get all kinds of hate mail for this i could care less; nolan (to me) wasnt the most charming of the bunch in the class. he was constantly derogatory to females.

This is crazy and I cant believe what I am reading! I remember her from back in the day when we were both in junior college. She was absolutely beautiful and sweet as can be so I can see how those young boys wanted her. I am sure they pressured her allot to do stuff, so the kid should have had shit coming to him as well. I thought she was older than me but I was actually older than her its nuts. What can I say we also had some study time alone and hooked up a quite a few times. In my eyes she was just a sexual being and after what I experienced I can see why the boy came back for more. I am glad she was not given any jail time for this bull shit, cause honestly she is one of the sweetest person I have ever met, she just made a bad decision. All I can say is good luck in the future
