As Beagle owners, we thought this was pretty cool:
NEW YORK — Uno, a playful underdog with close connections to Austin, shattered a long-running best-in-show shutout for his breed at the Westminster Kennel Club dog show Tuesday, becoming the first beagle to win the title of the nation’s No. 1 dog.
His white-tipped tail wagging and his baying winning hearts, Uno beat out a field of six other top dogs: an Akita, poodles in standard and toy varieties, a Sealyham terrier, a Weimaraner and an Australian shepherd.

I took my mom to the Westminster Dog Show a couple of years ago. The best part is being allowed to the holding areas where the dogs are all in their cages and you can even pet them.
Unfortunately the year we went the winner was one of those frou frou dogs- not a solid beagle.
It’s nice to know that they don’t subtract points for the dogs acting like dogs.
I’ve known many fine dogs of different breeds over the years, but the best dog in my life was a Beagle that was a gift from relatives when I was twelve. She was best in every way, and was loved by all in our family and extended family.
When I saw Uno win on TV the other night, I was pleased that such a perfect example of the breed was the first time winner. Uno is the best looking Beagle I’ve ever seen, and that wonderful baying voice made me laugh.
