Does not disavow hate-filled racist pastor
The last thing I needed this morning was to be preached at on the issue of race relations (full text of the speech here). Especially from a guy who has surrounded himself (and even married) some of the most hate-filled, separatist racists I’ve heard spew forth in quite some time.
If Barack Obama wanted to preach the story of unity and racial harmony, perhaps he should have started with his own Reverend and his own wife. I doubt that he did, though. I doubt it would have done much good, either.
_____
In the speech, Obama said that he can no more disown the “white America” hating Wright than he can disown his grandmother who, he says, “occasionally uttered racial epithets”.
Which is utter bullshit. He didn’t choose his grandmother. But he did choose to associate himself (extremely closely) to Rev. Wright. He can disown Rev. Wright. He won’t do it though. Can’t and Won’t don’t mean the same thing, Barack.
And again, I don’t buy the lies that he just recently learned that his spiritual adviser, mentor, and close friend Rev. Wright is a white-hating, America-hating, hate-fille, anti-Semitic race hustler.
Barack has known this since day one. 20 years ago.
From Barack’s own mouth today: “Did I ever hear him make remarks that could be considered controversial while I sat in church? Yes.” Contrast that with his words from just a few days ago when he lied to the American public, “I have never heard Rev. Wright preach hatred of America.”
Was he lying then, or is he lying now (we know the answer is “then”)? Does it matter which time he lied to us?
_______
OTHERS
Paul at Powerline: “The rest of us now should have the courage to take Obama at his word and decide whether it is acceptable to elect as president of the United States someone who carries Rev. Wright around as part of him, and who takes his ranting seriously.”
NOTE: I won’t accept him or his associations with Rev. Wright.
Kathryn Lopez sums up the whole speech quite succinctly: “Damn straight, Rev. Wright is angry. That’s how I wound up at his church. That’s why I stay there. I’m mad too, I just control it better. Now let’s get [on with] electing me president so we can all feel good.”
Mary at Freedom Eden: “Rather than saying he won’t be associated with Wright and his message, rather than admitting that he made a mistake in choosing him as a spiritual mentor and financially supporting a church that preaches hate, Obama told America he won’t abandon Wright. He won’t change.”
NOTE: Obama’s new campaign slogan: “Change for thee but not for me.”
AJ at Strata-Sphere: “What is telling is Obama admits he was not truthful when he claimed not to know about Wright,” which is what I’ve been saying since the moment that Barack opened his lying pie hole about this matter.
Kate at Small Dead Animals:
So, he’s shuffled from “he doesn’t exist” to “I didn’t hear him” to “I didn’t agree” to “my white grandmother was racist, too, and look how I turned out”.
Perhaps Obama doesn’t two-step so much as he slithers.

and just to celebrate while we’re still being entertained by this sinking ship…i attended this morning’s “dog ate my homework” profession. yes i actually drove to philly, and no i wasn’t on the list. i’ve actually been wanting to see the museum and the liberty bell and independence hall and franklin’s grave. this was all within 1/4 mile.
the senator may not be qualified, he may be defeated, he may be marginalized by many (if not most), but he aint giving up. there were some rabid disciples too, but these nuts would try and defend a pedophilia-filled past if it were discovered. lucky for me too; they were so busy being pc, they didn’t notice when i jedi mind tricked em!
obamamaniacs: “you’re not on the list!”
me: “yes we can, yes we can, yes we can…find me on the list…
obamamaniacs: yes we can find you on the list…wanna buy some death sticks?”
me: “you don’t want to sell me any death sticks; you want to go home and rethink you’re life!”
no seriously, i may have given them an old nickname i happened to have seen that may have been on one of their 4 admission lists. woops! truth be told, they were just so excited about the appearance of obamesiah that they wouldn’t have discriminated against osama bin laden if he claimed his name was hank aaron. so the battered but not broken flock were really cool until the divine climbed up on the soap box, i took my jacket off, and exposed my new shirt.
[Editor --- funny you should mention that t-shirt. I just designed my own Obama t-shirt. It reads, "I wouldn't vote for Obama if he was white."
It's designed to throw people off with it's duel meanings --- 1) I am voting for Obama because he is black, or 2) I'm not voting for Obama, and it's not because I'm a racist. My reasons for not voting for him have nothing to do with his race.]
You’re a fucking dumbass. Shuck and Jive on that
[Editor --- more witty repertoire from an Obamaniac. I wouldn't expect anything more.]
me,
the simplistic authors of these threads aren’t up to taking in such in depth analysis and all encompassing insight. perhaps you’re looking for moveon.org
LOL>>OMGLTTFMO!!!!
Adam – learn some grammar and punctuation, then come back and sit quietly with the adults.
Talk about contrasts, it’s amazing that on the same network featuring Buchanan, Sally Quinn did a great job this morning, as the networks were killing time waiting for Obama to arrive on stage, pointing out all the incendiary and unacceptable statements that preachers from Jesse Jackson to Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell to Billy Graham, have made over the years…and the absence of any real expectation that the white politicians who relied on their support give a major speech denouncing them and reflecting on race or religion in American politics.
[Editor --- Except that Obama didn't denounce Rev. Wright. He rationalized his racists remarks, but definitely didn't denounce nor distance himself from his hateful old uncle.]
Memo to wingnuts condemning Obama for Wright’s statements: When you’ve built an entire political movement on the backs of a crazy mob of Dixiecrat Savonarolas who make outrageous hateful comments pretty much every day, you’ve sort of opted-out of your ability to throw stones.
So Wright is family. Family he couldn’t talk to? Family he didn’t try to convince that his message of hatred was divisive? Family he adored because why? If the issue of race is so important to this country, Senator Obama, why wasn’t it important enough to confront with your own family?
If it had not been for Obama’s association with Wright, and was strictly about race relations in this country, I would have considered the speech excellent, but facts are it was a speech to clear his name and he didn’t do the job.
This was a masterful speech. McCain is toast. Get a load:
He’s ready for the next departing ice floe, methinks…
He’s ready for the next departing ice floe, methinks…
But you don’t think, Patricia. It is funny to see you so upset by BHO’s set back. He’s never going to win, now. Get use to it.
I curse B-HO, ever since he mentioned the mustard and relish sandwich, I’ve had the Jones for one.
And some Milk Toast.
Shuck n’ Jive? What the fuck?
No he didn’t drop out of the race as you would have preferred but please name another politician who has as clearly addressed the roots of racial angst of both white and black people.
Maybe what B-HO wants is for us to take the George Mason University Diversity Training Program.
patty-
this is the second time you’ve noted my grammar and/or punctuation on a thread here. i repled last time and you ignored it, which you tend to do with all serious questions/comments. so if you could please take a moment and post a link for all us juveniles to research proper literary ettiquette on an informal blog thread, i’ll make sure i do my part to appease you and the rest of the internet grammar nazis who try and skirt real issues with bullshit.
preston,
you make a solid point regarding obamas portrayal of race relations from opposing perspectives and i’ve tried but don’t recall a politician doing it as eloquently. several authors and sociologists come to mind but no politicians.
realistically though, this portion of the speech seems more politically motivated as opposed to a genuine desire to increase dialog. after all, his spiritual leader of the previous two decades had to be on tv for a week saying some of the silliest, paranoid, factually inaccurate and overtly sexual shit i’ve ever heard from a religious leader. not attempting to address it further, almost undoubtedly leading to race, would most likely be the end of the run. additionally, he had to straddle the fence and offer a black and white perspective cause anything else would have substantially hurt the campaign by alienating huge demographics. in my opinion, he loses points for trying to equate wrights rhetoric with his prejudice grandma. subtract a few more for subtle attempts to morally equate ferraro’s statements with wrights(funny how she didn’t spark the race speech). additional deductions for not starting the race talks with his own pastor before suggesting that americans need to search themselves. i could go on, but i think i’ve made the point.
we’ll see how sincere the senator is in his cry for dialog on race. i’m excited to hear a bit more detail about what he meant by “perfecting” the issue. is that even possible?
in all seriousness, if we are to seek improvements through discussion, all people will first have to be much more aware of american history. then black people will have to acknowledge some extremely troubling facts about the present. while i agree that nothing obama can say will solve race relations or correct the misinformation that his pastor has perpetuated, i will admit he can write and deliver a speech. having a record of speaking well hardly qualifies him for the presidency. perhaps mr. obama should now explain to the public how specific accomplishments in his life should make us think he isn’t just a solid press secretary trying to drum up votes using race. or is the beginning of some attempt to pitch the idea of a quota based affirmative action program to help us pick a president?
Before, I just wouldn’t vote for Obama. Now, I loathe him. He is the most racially divisive candidate around.
Before, I just wouldn’t vote for Obama. Now, I loathe him. He is the most racially divisive candidate around.
Apparently you didn’t trouble yourself to read the speech.
Apparently you didn’t trouble yourself to read the speech.
No, I skimmed it and listen to the entire speech live. Again, he is the most racially divisive candidate around.
That’s nonsense.
I thought his speech sucked, and was a failed attempt to deflect attention away from his hateful Preacher.
From Dumb Looks Still Free, here is the speech he should have given.
But he didn’t, he couldn’t, he wouldn’t, and he never will.
The only way I would have considered the speech to be successful would have been if Obama had renounced everything he believed in and adopted No2Liberal’s ideology.
Preston, sarcasm aside, then you would agree his speech wasn’t successful?
How about a daily tracking poll.
A month ago, McCain had 52% favorable, and a 43% unfavorable, while B-HO had a 54% favorable, and a 43% unfavorable.
Now, it’s McCain at 53% and 43%, with B-HO at 48% and 49%.
His myth is exposed, and the reality that he is rooted in black supremacy and separatism is clear. Now all that’s left to do is inform everyone of how inept he has been as a public servant. No one can win a general election without the white male vote, and the majority of that group are not guilty liberals, or bigots, that believe words do indeed have meaning, and actions speak louder than words.
Imus made a couple of stupid remarks and apologized. Yet, BHO thought he should be fired. Typical racist double standard.
[Editor --- Yep. Especially since on the whole Imus affair, Obamassiah! had this to say:
Well, nobody except his crazy old racist Uncle Jeremiah!
Barack should be more worried about the hateful stereotypes that his daughters are learning in their church and just tune out Imus.]
Howard Dean does not run the Democratic Party the Clinton machine does. Politics is a game and every game needs a token and all Barack was is a token for Fox Cnn and the USA.
