Marine Cpl David Thibodeaux — Forgive? No Chance. Forget? Not with my last breath.

I haven’t listened to the Dixie Chicks in long, long time. Ever since they went abroad to criticize our country, in fact.

I’ve never listened to their song “Not Ready to Make Nice”, but I’ve read the lyrics (today for the first time). The song is their way of not backing down from their criticism of the war or of our President, despite the negative impact it’s had on their careers. They sing:

I’m not ready to make nice
I’m not ready to back down
I’m still mad as hell and I don’t have time to go ’round and ’round and ’round
It’s too late to make it right
I probably wouldn’t if I could
‘Cause I’m mad as hell
Can’t bring myself to do what it is you think I should

Allahpundit at HotAir has posted a Marine’s response (in song) to the Dixie Chicks. Click the image to listen to Marine Cpl. David Thibodeaux’s song, “I’m not Ready to End the Fight”:

Cpl David Thibodeaux

This is awesome — gave me slight goose bumps listening to it. Good music can do that. Especially when he sings their chorus back to them:

Forgive, I should
Forget, bet you wish I would

You say, time heals everything
So just keep waiting

You’re through, no doubt
But your too blind to figure it out
There is, a price
And I’ll keep payin’

I’m not ready to end the fight
I’m not ready to back down
I’ve been through hell
And I don’t have time to go round and round and round
It’s too late to turn back now
You know I wouldn’t if I could
‘Cause I’m proud as hell
I can’t bring myself to do what it is you think I should

You once, walked
On the yellow brick road

But now you stumble on jagged stones
And I kind of like it

In your bed you sob like a baby
So full of regret as you lye there prayin’
And it’s a sad, sad story that a mother didn’t teach her
Daughter to respect those who protect her
And now you know how the words that you say
Can send so many over the edge
That hearts fill up with hate and anger
As you dream of a way to make it better
You can’t make it better

I’m not ready to end the fight
I’m not ready to back down
I’ve been through hell
And I don’t have time to go round and round and round
It’s too late to turn back now
You know I wouldn’t if I could
‘Cause I’m proud as hell
Can’t bring myself to do what it is you think I should

I’m not ready to end the fight
I’m not ready to back down
I’ve been through hell
And I don’t have time to go round and round and round
It’s too late to turn back now
You know I wouldn’t if I could
‘Cause I’m proud as hell
Can’t bring myself to do what it is you think I should

Forgive, no chance
Forget, not till my last breath
You say, time heals everything
But I’m not waiting

From his MySpace page, Cpl Thibodeaux writes:

A fellow Marine and I wrote, and I recorded a song titled “Not Ready To End The Fight.” This song was inspired by the fact that I, like many Americans, don’t particularly appreciate the underlying message behind the Dixie Chicks’ song “Not Ready To Make Nice.” While I did like the underlying music from song, the lyrics’ just didn’t sit well with me, many of my colleagues and other Americans.

  2. The Dixie Twits have been on my shite list ever since they pulled their stunt, as well.
It would take a major act of atonement from them for me to reconsider.
Like the t-shirt said, “I’ll forgive Jane Fonda when the Jews forgive Hitler.”

[Editor --- I have a "Jane Fonda: American Traitor & Bitch" patch sewn on the back of my ride vest. Get lots of thumbs up from the old Vietnam Vet bikers.]

  4. Didn’t the Dixie Chicks win all sorts of awards 2 or so years ago?

Sad…absolutely sad that the voters of these awards give in to the controversey (sp) and liberal crap.

  6. Country music has a special position in my heart. One of country music band which I do love to listen to is The Dixie Chicks. They really know how to attract their audience’s attention and gather more fans and I’m no exception. They’re a great band thus they’ve won many awards and their popularity is fairly remarkable while in a concert. Tickets become pricy and hard to get. Lately a friend has recommended me a site where to compare ticket prices for free before purchasing.

  8. I think we as American’s need to stand behind our soldiers, even if we are against the war. Because of their selfless acts we are free to spout off like so many celebrity’s do. I say this , I’m tired of the famous using their fame to give us their opinions. I say entertain me but don’t shove what you think or feel on me. No One else EVER and I mean EVER could walk up to their boss and say I don’t think it is fair that you make more than I do..or I don’t think it is nice that one gets this and the others don’t. SO Why should the celebrity? Just because they are famous doesn’t give them the right to say what they think or feel …Please For now on SHUT UP AND DO WHAT WE THE FANS PAY YOU TO DO. We don’t pay you to talk we pay you to entertain, so freakin entertain me . Maybe it is our fault because we as the public stand by and listen instead of making our feelings known. The more people talk about it the more fuel that’s added to the fire, the more The Dixie Chicks think they have the right to use what we gave them to voice their Opinion. How about we send all the people that’s against the war over there and let them fight the war for us, maybe then they will have a different view on the subject . Yet if you don’t have family, friends,or neighbors over there you don’t know what it is like to hear so many bad mouthing the war. It hurts , because we suffer every min of every day wondering when we are going to get the call that our family , friends , and /or neighbors have paid the ultimate price for those people to run off and talk about crap they don’t really know much about.

  9. Loved the song. Makes me prouder of my son and of all that serve. The chicks should be forced to serve their country as a form of punishment for their treason.

  10. I just happened upon this song and was so impressed. I want to order the CD for my husbands birthday but there doesn’t seem to be a site to do that. All I am finding is that I can hear it online. God bless the Military, whatever the branch. My husband is currently in the Army but is a former Marine. He has been in the Military for about 24 years. Someone mentioned that you can be against the war, but still support the Military. I agree. I still have concerns, but would never question the intentions of our Soldiers. They are beautiful people! Please let me know if there is a site to order the CD.

The dixie chicks should shut up or be forced to serve over seas alone with no weapons but thier mouths… Ignore them it hurts them economicly…..
