Talking to the folks at the McCain campaign, it’s obvious and apparent that McCain intends to run a “respectable” campaign “around the issues”.
There seems to be an unwillingness to go after the ugly side of Barack Obama — and there’s plenty of “ugly” to go after. Which is why I like this idea (from a Bill Kristol opinion piece in the NY Times:
But Republicans will. Last week, over drinks, one Republican strategist not affiliated with the McCain campaign mused about how an independent advertising effort against Obama might work. “Barack Obama: He’s not who you think he is†would be the theme. The supporting evidence would come from his left-wing voting record in Illinois and Washington, spiced up with fun video clips of Reverend Wright.
I would be much more inclined to donate to this campaign that I would the official McCain campaign, as I believe it would be a more effective strategy for beating Obama.
Perhaps it’s the realist in me that believes that there is no way anybody with two functioning brain cells (or isn’t a Muslim, a radical Liberal, or a socialist)Â could possibly be voting for the “real” Sen. Barack Obama (vs. the vision of the “Hope and Change” Obama).
I think Democratic insiders and those in the know, are afraid of the same thing:
And an experienced Democratic operative e-mailed: “Finally, I think [McCain’s] going to win. Obama isn’t growing in stature. Once I thought he could be Jimmy Carter, but now he reminds me more of Michael Dukakis with the flag lapel thing and defending Wright. Plus he doesn’t have a clue how to talk to the middle class. He’s in the Stevenson reform mold out of Illinois, with a dash of Harvard disease thrown in.â€
My greatest fear is that he is another Jimmy Carter — not just a disgrace as a man and a person, but a disaster of a President.

I really wonder how this thing is going to turn out. I hang out at some very liberal KC sites which I really enjoy. Although they are rabidly liberal, most of the people are pretty decent. However, I don’t think anything could be said or found out that would change their mind about Obama. I think he could be found visiting a mosque and they’d still support him…heck that might make them support him even more.
I’m a conservative but not a rabid one. I think the dems are right on some issues (health care for one) but wrong on most. I wouldn’t vote for Obama, however, if McCain declared immediate amnesty for the illegals and believe me that would really really upset me. So, maybe we aren’t so different - the conservs and the libs in our ideology except I’ll put defense of my country first and they won’t.
