From the Houston Chronicle’s Top Photos for April 11, 2008:

I’m sure the responsible owner of this dog feels bad for the child that her pit bull tried to maul:

Nope. She feels bad for her dog, though.
I’m sure the first words out of Sharhonda’s mouth (Sharhonda? Seriously?) were something to the effect of “he’s the sweetest dog ever, he’s never hurt anybody before”.
With a thousand great breeds out there, I’m always just completely baffled as to why anybody would choose a pit bull. Then again, there seems to be a “type” of person who owns pit bulls.

I think it’s a little bit unfair to say that she feels no guilt or sympathy for the child just because she’s sad about losing her dog.
Pit Bulls, unfortunately, are one of a few breeds that can just turn aggressive for no good reason. Unwise as it may have been for her to keep the dog as a pet in a neighborhood with children, there’s no reason she shouldn’t be allowed to weep over the loss of a beloved pet, inappropriate as it may have been.
