The real Austin City Limits Music Festival lineup has been announced for 2008 (unlike this totally kick-ass but fake poster that I fell for a few weeks ago).
The Foo Fighters are this year’s biggest headliner? Feh.
Other “big” names and not so big names:
- Robert Plant and Alison Krauss
- Beck
- John Fogerty
- The Raconteurs
- Gnarls Barkley
- Erykah Badu
- Robert Earl Keen
- Patty Griffin
- Tegan & Sara (one of my wife’s favorite bands)
- G. Love & Special Sauce (one of my favorite bands — the last time I saw them here in Austin was with Jack Johnson.)
- Galactic (because you ‘gotta have a hippie jam band, man)
- Del the Funky Homosapien (great band name, but I’ve never heard of them either)
- What Made Milwaukee Famous
- Shooter Jennings (Waylon’s kid)
- Back Door Slam (I’m guessing they are not playing the kiddie tent)
- Band of Heathens (opened for Barack Obama the first time he came to Austin. Liked them more than Obama)
Color me unimpressed. No way I’m paying the $170 three-day pass ticket price for that line up. No way am I fighting the crowds, the dust, and the heat for that lineup.
Probably my favorite artist that is playing this year is Robert Earl Keene. And I can see him almost anytime here in Austin.

let me preface; i wouldn’t drop $170 for that lineup either. while i don’t agree that galactic is a “jam” band, they are pretty badass live. in fact, last time i saw them they were on tour with a host of special guest mcs that made their show more hip hop than anything else.
robbie,
i only ask because i tend to respect your opinions and views and typically find them just and insightful but i hate the term. what, to you, constitutes a jam band?
