In Houston, the owner of a small BBQ joint shot a presumed robber to death when he found him in his store while it was closed on Sunday afternoon.
The owner, saw a broken window when he arrived and then saw a man inside.
“The business owner told the male inside to stop, (but) he continued moving,” said sheriff’s Sgt. L.A. Davis. The owner fired once from outside the building, fatally wounding the burglar. Davis said the owner, who is licensed to carry a concealed handgun, kept a shotgun and pistol inside the restaurant and may have been concerned that the intruder had them.
“There were weapons inside,” Davis said. “That was somewhat in his mind, I would imagine.”
Davis added that the restaurateur was protecting his property. “He was under no obligation to retreat,” he said.
Investigators said they will leave it to a grand jury to decide whether charges should be filed.
Thank goodness for the second amendment and thank goodness for the Castle Doctrine.
As the saying goes, when you only have seconds, the police are only minutes away. Perhaps the owner should have fled, and maybe all he loses is all the cash in his till. Or, perhaps, the owner should have let the guy flee with his cash and his guns, and the guy’s next heist is armed robbery and he shoots and kills someone else.
The store owner made the right choice.

If you get burglarized in the EU, you have to hide in a room with your family and hope for the best because the cops will never show up.

In other words, the punishment for burglary should be the death penalty.
[Editor --- If that's what the owner of said property feels like is their best recourse for protecting their property and potentially their lives (remember, there were firearms in the store that the burglar could/might have used against the owner)...then yes.]
Considering the fact that burglars are known to kill the people they are burglarizing, I think it is only fair the tables are switched.
The Castle Law’s restore a degree of sanity to criminal law. No longer does the criminal get to slide on the canard of being a victim of society, the real victim has the trump card.
