If Barack Obama had his way, Houston convenience store owner Peter Quang Dan would not have had the right to defend himself and his store from two thugs who robbed and pistol whipped him:
A grand jury will decide whether a Houston convenience store owner was justified when he fatally shot one of two men who tried to rob his business late Thursday night, authorities said today.
Peter Quang Dan fired at two men as they fled his store in southwest Houston, hitting one in the head, Houston Police said. The man’s name has not been released.
Police said he and another man entered the Colony Express Market at 2525 Broadway about 11 p.m. and robbed Dan, who was behind the cash register.
Dan, 50, told investigators one of the men pistol-whipped him after demanding cash, then forced him to lie on the floor of the store. As the two fled, Dan grabbed a pistol he keeps in the store and fired, police said.
Hopefully it won’t take that jury more than about 30 seconds to decide that Mr. Dan was absolutely justified to protect his life and property with lethal force against these thugs.
The worst part of this story is that Mr. Dan wasn’t able to kill both thugs.

It may take longer than thirty seconds, but he will walk.
I once almost bought an AMT Hardballer Long-slide at a Gun Show, just for it’s provenance. Some guy up in Indiana owned it, and it was in his car, when a group of seven people in the bar he was visiting, for whatever reason, dragged him outside and nearly beat him to death. The man dragged himself to his car, got his AMT, and managed to make it back inside, and killed all seven.
He was no-billed.
I wish we could get no-billed for shooting thieves like this.
I’m believe strongly in the right to self defense, but I am not sure this meets the threshold.
Peter Quang Dan fired at two men as they fled his store.
As the two fled, Dan grabbed a pistol and fired…
Based on those two comments, I question the claim of self-defense, and I fear that cases like this will be used as examples of why stronger, more restrictive gun laws are needed.
JS, not in Texas, it is lawful to fire on fleeing felons.
Hmmm i dont blame him for doing what he did buttttt… dont you supporters of the dp thuink he deserves death as he clearly murdered someone?
[Editor --- I do not think you understand what "murder" is, as not all killing is murder. Murder is the unlawful killing of a human person with malice aforethought. What Mr Dan did was not unlawful, and thus it was not murder. But nice try at the spin.]
