Robert Sheer, 60’s Anti-war Activist, Smears General Petraeus. Again.

Robert Sheer, writing at the Huffing-and-puffing Post, breaks out the tired and insulting “General Betray Us” shtick again in regards to Gen. David Petraeus.

You have to understand that Sheer is nothing more than a bitter old hippie stuck in the 1960’s. Between 1964 and 1969, he was a Vietnam correspondent, managing editor and editor in chief of Ramparts magazine. Sheer never served in Vietnam, he just went there to undermine the US effort and to help spread the North Vietnamese propaganda.

Right Wing News perfectly sums up Sheer’s latest smear against Gen. Petraeus — a more honorable and better man by far than Sheer could ever dream of being:

I think you’d have to go all the way back to the Civil War to find a time in our county’s history when so many Americans hate and despise an American general for winning a war that Americans are engaged in.

Except in this case, instead of Southerners understandably hating Sherman or Northerners understandably hating Lee, we have callow liberals who detest Petraeus for winning a war that they’re desperate to lose for purely political reasons. It’s just despicable…

Yep. It turns my stomach to watch the Left actually root and hope for an American defeat in Iraq. Question their patriotism? No — because they simply don’t have any.

    A new poll released by Rasmussen Reports yesterday finds:

    that 65% of Americans would like to see U.S. troops brought home from Iraq within a year. That’s the highest total recorded in the tracking poll which has been conducted regularly since August of last year. . . .

    Looking at the other end of the spectrum, 31% want troops to remain in Iraq until the mission is complete. That figure has ranged from 31% to 39% since tracking began.

    So 31% of Americans agree with John McCain’s views on Iraq and 65% — a record high — reject that view. This, of course, shows that the Iraq War will be a big asset for McCain’s presidential campaign and a real threat to the Democrats, and that withdrawal is political poison, because Americans are turning in favor of the war again and want to stay until we Win.

    Also, everyone sane and honest admits that the Surge is working great:

    The survey also found that 32% believe the troop “surge” has worked while 43% disagree and say it has not. Sixty-one percent (61%) of Republicans say the surge has worked. Fifty-nine percent (59%) of Democrats say it has not along with 51% of those not affiliated with either major party.

    Since McCain is most closely associated with the Surge and with staying forever, this is all really good news for him.

    I have a bunch of Scheer stories but not the time to post them. Even leftards with more than a passing familiarity with the man and his writing can’t stand him.

  4. Pat, you totally crack me up with your predictable pattern of citing some article, without even looking at the data that source is citing.
    At the actual Rasmussen poll, there is a graph, and the breakdown is shown. Seriously, you don’t learn at all. So I will put it in bold for you.
    IF A SOURCE IS CITED, GO TO THE SOURCE AND SEE FOR YOURSELF.
    I know you are always looking for info to validate your beliefs, but all you do is get slapped around, and not taken seriously.
