Austin Teacher Arrested for Consentual Sex with Another Adult

Albeit she was a student…

A 34-year old male teacher at Travis High School in Austin was arrested for having sex with a student:

A male Travis High School teacher was arrested Wednesday and accused of having sex with an 18-year-old female student more than 20 times in five days.

Allen James Cole, 34, was charged with having an improper relationship with a student. He was released Thursday from the Travis County Jail on $10,000 bail.

Teachers should not be having sex with their students — regardless of the age of either of them. Just as a President shouldn’t be having sex with his interns.

But I don’t think, in this case, that Mr. Cole should be arrested and charged with a crime. The student was 18-years old and a consenting adult.

He should be fired and prohibited from ever teaching again. But not thrown in jail.

And 20 times in 5 days? Yeah. I vaguely remember what it was like to be 18.

Four times a day?
I still remember what it was like to be forty.
If it is codified that sex with a student is illegal, then he knew full well the consequences. If not, then I agree, he needs to find another line of work.
