Just a family- and fun-filled Memorial Day spent at the lake — except for that family who decided to bring their unleashed “sweet and friendly” family pit bull to Emma Long Park (Austin, TX) with them.
A Parks Police officer shot a dog four times in Emma Long Park in West Austin on Memorial Day after it charged and lunged at a department employee, officials said.
Police responded to a dispatch call about a park patron who was bitten by a pitbull around noon Monday. According to Parks Police Chief Alvin Shaw, police were directed toward the family that owned the dog and the 2-year-old blue pitbull charged and knocked Parks Police officer Albert Perez to the ground.
Perez shot his gun three times and was requested by the dog’s owner to “put the dog out of its misery” and fired a final shot to kill it, Shaw said. The incident is under investigation.
I mean, other than that…?
So the dog has already bit one person, and lunged at a park employee. You would think that by the time the officer arrived that the dog would be under control (and by “under control” I mean chained to the bumper of a car or truck).
But no…the idiot owners (is there really any other kind of pit bull owner?) left their attack dog friendly family pet loose to attack the police officer who was investigating the scene.
Hopefully the family of that pit bull will face some serious legal consequences for their dangerous animal. In the meantime, they’re probably already out the animal shelter adopting another pit bull…

as one of the idiot pitbull owners of the world, let me say that only an idiot would say that. like people, pitbulls and all other creatures there are exceptions to every rule. i know several people who own pits who are wonderful loving dogs. like children,if you raise a pit to be well behaved and loving they will act as such. sad enough though, because of their reputation only the ignorant and problem humans of the world are the ones who own them. that is why the shelters are full of them, people dont take time to care for thier animal properly, and just dont want to act responsible i.e not keeping their dog on a leash. and there are several stories of other dog breeds dogs biting people and attacking other animals, but they dont make headlines because they dont have the reputation of pits. like with our children weve stopped discipling them properly and placing the blame on any one but the true responsible parties (parents or in this case owners) so i do agree with you half heartedly, but you of all people should be able to relate, i mean how many biker stereotypes do you know about.
