Earlier this month I wrote about 7-year old Tanner Monk, who was attacked and killed by pitbulls outside of his house near Abilene, TX.
Well, a Texas grand jury has acted quickly to recommend charges against the dogs owners.
Jack Smith, 45, and Crystal Watson, 27, the dogs owners have been arrested:
Both Smith and Watson are charged with a dog attack resulting in death, a second-degree felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a maximum fine of $10,000. The law went into effect in September 2007.
Bail for each person was set at $250,000 each and both remain in custody.
I hope they are each sentenced to the maximum extent of the law. It would serve notice to owners of this exceptionally dangerous breed that they will be held criminally responsible when their attack dog actually attacks and kills someone.
