The repub brand has been badly damaged. It is a joke to call the repubs conservatives anymore. And true, who gets the shaft, the middle class working stiffs who fund all the pork and disgusting spending. Conservatives need to wake up and realize there is no one at the helm. This ship is leaderless and we are adrift. Finally it has become clear to anyone paying attention that the repubs, by and large, are just as greedy and piggish as the dems. It is my belief that sending another repub back to the white house is a mistake. Yes I know this sounds crazy. Here is what I honestly think, the repubs need to have their ass handed to them, slap them hard, make them realize we will not just vote for them because they are the lesser of two evils. It is suicide to vote that way. The reason being, the two parties just play ping pong because they know we have nowhere else to go. That is why we need a strong third party so desparately. I for one will NOT play the ping pong game anymore. I will vote third party. THAT is the ONLY option left for this country. Yes I know, what about supreme court, illegal’s, spending, yes it will be worse under the dems. But it took us years to fall this far, and it will take years to dig back out, if that is even still possible. Until enough people say NO you will NOT get my vote anymore I am going elsewhere, nothing will change. It is only fear of being kicked out of the gravy train that the politically correct elite fear.

We are really at a crossroads in this once great nation. It is time for a new tact. We cannot keep playing ping pong of 8 years of do nothing dems, then 8 years of do nothing repubs, that is EXACTLY what has gotten us into this pathetic mess.!! Spending, illegal’s, pork, political correctness gone crazy, ignoring the will of the people like in California right now, are all the result of this class of elite know nothings that are leading us straight into the toilet. The people in california over and over say NO to gay marriage, but the political correct garbage in charge of the state say screw what the PEOPLE want, we want this, so too bad for you...Now WHY would people continue to vote for anyone who voted for this and said we don't care what you think???? Because we are all so busy and distracted, and that’s the way they want us...Well that is over, time to wake up and vote against anyone and everyone who is NOT listening. IF it means we get a third party nobody, hey they could NOT be worse than the corrupt pigs we have now, give me a break.!! And if, just if lets say 50% of the people voted third party this election, just think of the HUGE signal that would send to washington.!!!! I am sorry it will be third party for me, it is the only power I have and I will NOT vote for the two parties that directly put us in the mess we are in. That is insanity to me.....to quote someone, I forget who: a person who keeps doing the same thing over and over expecting different results is the very definition of insanity.

The GOP is deserving of the kick in the ass they are getting because they have sold out to big business. But, not so fast Dems to think you're getting away with anything. You have sold out to the "oppressed" for their vote. And, the middle class knows it. They know that they are working their asses off for "the oppressed" to get the benefits that the democrats have given them over the years "for their vote".

So who is screwed? The middle class both by the Republicans and by the Democrats. Both of them guilty as hell, but guess what, we see you clearly now and we're mad as hell and things better change or it won't matter if you are black or white or yellow or rich or poor or Bill Gates or "farmers" (mostly corporate) cause we in the middle have your numbers people and this shit is gonna stop.

You're right Preston about the GOP making these types of pledges in the past...not just when they were in power, but --- more accurately --- to obtain power.

The conservative base's biggest complaint with the GOP over the last 7 years has been their unabashed addiction to big government spending and pork --- which is supposed to be counter to what our party believes in.

They became no different than Democrats, who have also used the "money moving through Washington to enrich their supporters and entrench their power" (<em>see</em>: Rep. John Murtha and Sen. Robert Byrd).

I wouldn't call it so much corruption as I would unmitigated greed (shared by both sides of the aisle).

These are the types of pledges the GOP makes when they're not in power. When they are in charge they are more than happy to use the money moving through Washington to enrich their supporters and entrench their power.

As it happens, I think that their corruption was an effective means of retaining power. It was simply washed away by dissatisfaction with the war.
