I’m meeting my boss down at Red’s Indoor Range (South) tomorrow to buy his Springfield XD 45ACP Compact (gotta add to the collection before in case Obama actually does win the Presidency).
In addition to being a licensed broker for transfer sales, Red’s gets my business for a few other reasons:
- Ladies Day — In order to get more ladies interested in the sport of shooting and/or practicing with firearms they own for defense, Red’s designates Mondays as Ladies’ Day at the Range. Which means that Ladies shoot for half price (only $7.00/hour) and get free use of any of Red’s rental guns (provided they purchase the ammo from Red’s).
- Youth Groups — Firearms training and free use of the range is provided for 4-H Clubs, Scouts and other youth groups. Red’s simply asks that you call in advance reservations regarding this outstanding public service.
- Concealed Handgun Licenses — In addition to providing this class, Red’s also takes your passport photos, fingerprinting, and notarization of your documentation complementary at the end of the class.

I think you will be well pleased with the XD.
One bit of advice, extended from a friend who bought one, with the very expensive laser designator…don’t buy the laser designator.
The Poly base under the barrel, where the accessory rail is, flexes when fired, and the laser dot goes all over the place. I have handled the gun, and can make the lower frame wiggle with my bare hand. I’m not saying it’s not durable, just that it is unsupported at the end of the frame, and flexes.
My friend loves his, and recommends them.
Robbie,
I have the same gun, but in the 5″ model. I love how it shoots and Nathan takes it when he goes hog hunting with his friends. The pistol is not his only weapon while hunting hogs, he carries it along with what rifle he is using.
Rich — my boss said he upgraded his to the 5″ barrel also. He’s throwing in 2 magazines, a box of shells, and paying the transfer fee ($50) — all for $400.
Not too bad of a deal, I think (it’s in near new condition).
Is Nathan finished with school for the semester, yet? Tell my nephew I said hello!
Robbie,
I have finished the semester, a good. I am now doing another internship at an Insurance Company in Bossier City called Pulley-White Insurance. That is also going very well. Ready to graduate, two more years. Hope everything is going well with you and Shannon. Nate
