One of my favorite musicians, New Orleans’ own Grayson Capps, is playing at the Hill Country Galleria’s Summer Concert Series (Free) on June 14 @ 8:00 pm.
If you’ve seen the movie A Love Song for Bobby Long, then you’ve heard Grayson Capps music. His father wrote the story that the screen play was written from, and Grayson provided most of the music and songs for the soundtrack, including coaching John Travolta to sing his songs.
Blog Critics review here:
Songbones is the first collection of music that I’ve ever heard by Grayson Capps, and it leaves me wanting to hear much more of his work. For people like me who aren’t familiar with him, it’s a great introduction to his work, and I think for those of you who do know his material, the versions of the songs on this disc will deepen your appreciation for his talent. Grayson Capps writes songs of power and grace, and Songbones is a wonderful showcase of that talent.
From a review from his MySpace page:
The thing that really grabs you is his songs, especially the lyrics. If Grayson had been performing in the ’60s, not born in it, he would have been sharing the stage with the likes of Dylan. His lyrics are socially provocative, passionate and this is one hell of a good Blues songwriter hiding in our midst, as well as a superb performer and social philosopher.
Get Back Up from the If You Knew My Mind album is probably my favorite…
