What a relief for all and especially for the victims family and friends.
I’m sure i echo everyone who believes in justice that this was a silly attempt and a waste of the courts time.
Hoods time has come and i hope that this sends a clear signal that society will not tolerate this behaviour and the ultimate penalty will be enforced.

Just know there are those of us who really do care that justice is served on those who commit such brutal murders. Hood did more than murder two innocent people, he ripped the hearts out of many others who were family and friends. His time for toying with the law of Texas is over, and the choice he made nineteen years ago is the choice he made for himself today.

Big Sis has been nothing but temperate in her remarks about the Hood’s family. She has never taunted them. The last comment she made about them was: I do have empathy for Deans family as they too will suffer a loss. This is just so sad for all involved, How one persons actions caused so much hurt.

However, Hood’s brother has come to this blog and physically threatened Robbie. His father molested both his daughters and his mother failed to protect them and instead chose to “stand by her man.” I can think of nothing more depraved than forcing yourself on your own daughters or any child at all. The Hood family has also posted many lies about the evidence against Hood on this blog in order to give a false impression of his guilty and even to falsely blame another person for the murders. Therefore, I refuse to join in the canonization of the Hoods. Nothing will bring Tracie or Ron back but neither will allowing Hood to get away with their murders. He knew the laws and chose to break them. If you want to call the Hoods victims, blame him. You are in no position to lecture anyone about how they will or should feel.

I really hesitated to add comment because the climate of this forum is so hostile and bias. Any statement that questions the popular perspective seems to be attacked with an immature, simplistic and ignorant response. I debated whether to waste my precious time and energy by daring to offer an opinion that would no doubt be wasted and inevitably ridiculed by a forum of ignorant, arrogant and (from what I can decipher) uneducated, close minded, dumb contributors. Ultimately I was so sickened by the comments here that I was compelled to counterpoint the dogma. I will not be particpating in this circus beyond this so tear apart my take to your heart’s content - I have better things to do than read your bullshit.

Your apparent zeal, relish and lynch mob mentality surrounding the imminent execution of Charles Hood is sick and twisted. While I have the upmost compassion for the family of the victims the death of Charles is simply another tragic event in this sad story. Killing him will not restore the lives of the victims and condoning his state sponsored murder exposes all of you who judge and condemn him as hypocrites. Your argument is that he deserves death because he is accused of taking another human life and therefore should forfeit his own (medieval concept but anyway). You say that murderers should be denied compassion or consideration for the circumstances that may have caused them to not respect the sanctity of human life yet in this barbaric spectacle and blood lust for his execution you illustrate how any human being is capable of endorsing murder if they are conditioned to believe it is acceptable. Capital punishment, no matter how sanitized is still murder and anybody who accepts, supports or implements it is responsible for the death of a human being. Any defence to this is to echo the Nazi’s on the ground who delivered the holocaust because they were following orders and believed in the cause.

Until we can say that the justice system is infallible we should not be enforcing irreversible penalties. Before you attack those from the UK and Europe who oppose you remember and respect that we are a much older, more mature culture who has learned the harsh lessons of imperialism and capital punishment, America is in it’s infancy and seems slow to catch on. Look at how you are perceived beyond your borders.

I write to DR inmates not to satisfy any morbid curiousity, I don’t send fan mail, I am not a death row groupie nor am I religious and on a mission to save souls. I feel for men lost in a flawed system. Brutal conditions of isolation and a belief that they were beyond redemption created a torturous regime conceived to temporarily store ‘bodies’ prior to execution but these men suffer in this limbo for years. This is not acceptable from a ‘civilised’ democratic society. A human being can be worth more than their darkest moment, a potential that is snuffed out by execution.
I disagree with capital punishment across the board but to humour you I understand that a key tenet is that the offendant can never be released into the general population of a prison or society again. There is no way you can argue that based on their previous records and crimes that all of the current death row population would pose a further threat to society. There are individuals who perpetrated worse offences yet they are serving life sentences with the possibility of parole because they had better attorneys, plea bargains or luck. In this corruption there is a valid argument that many death row inmates have been wrongly convicted and that even the guilty could be rehabilitated to lead meaningful lives and repay their debt to society.

Robbie, I find it bizarre that you mock those that attach themselves to DR inmates when you have now befriended a relative so you can finally get your wish to attend an actual execution and see the life being drained from Charles Hood- I hope it makes you happy and you get a kick from it.

How can anyone claim killing another human being will some how ease or lessen the pain from their loss? There’s no such thing as closure!

I know I have had a loved one murdered and their killer executed!

I actually lobbied to have this mans life spared for many reasons. The first being I’m Christian and believe only God has the right to say when it’s our time to leave this earth. God handed Moses ten real basic rules for us to follow, I doubt anyone will get a “Get out of hell free card” of judgment day because killing someone was part of their job.. Regardless if it’s cold blooded murder or a state sanctioned murder. Taking another humans life is WRONG!

Second; I knew taking the offenders life would do nothing to fill the void and loss he created in my life. Closure will come when my time on this earth is over.

Third; I knew his life inside prison was not pretty, he was in a maximum security prison, locked away 23 hours a day in a single man cell with an hour out a day for solo rec and a shower three times a week. His life was a living hell and I was satisfied knowing that in my state LWOP means just that, he would have never gotten out!

And finally; I felt compassion for the offender’s family, killing him did not bring my cousin back! But it did create heartache for another mother, his! She nor anyone else in his family deserved that pain, they too were victims!

I will never understand why I had to loose my cousin to a senseless crime, and I’m definitely not soft of criminals. So please don’t bash me for my opinion.

I guess I’m just appalled that people honestly think killing Mr. Hood will somehow lessen the hurt his victim’s families feel!

Genesis 9:6: Whoso sheddeth man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man.(This is God’s law, before Moses.)

Exodus chapter 21: we learn that God in His law demanded the death penalty for a number of crimes such as murder, kidnapping, cursing parents, etc.

Exodus 20:13 “You shall not murder.” Not as has become the current false definition, of “thou shalt not kill.” God demands perfect justice, by applying the law fairly. All murder is killing but not all killing is murder, and capital punishment doesn’t violate the sixth commandment.

As to the executioner and capital punishment in the New Testament, there is this: Romans 13:4, “For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.”

Anonymous, hate to break it to you but I’m not an easy target for you to attack and put down. I entered this arena as an objective person open to both sides of the debate. I contacted death row inmates in a professional rather than personal capacity and the conditions, cruelty and corruption in the system I observed formed my opinion. I won’t be marrying or falling for any of them but I will be advocating and fighting against the conveyor belt of state sponsored murder and the macabre circus you promote for what should be a sombre, serious debate.

There are no winners here, only more victims. I’m not a ‘troll’ - actually I’m buff and pretty with a successful career and relationship so don’t project your stereotypes on me. I’m a lot less passive than the other women you’ve tried to humiliate but I will channel my energy into debating with people who actually have influence over the issues that concern me. I’m not pro-murderer, I’m pro-humanity.

Now you are just plain lying. When inmates are moved off death row, where they are housed, and continued to be housed, and the privileges they receive for the remainder of their incarceration ,depends on their own behavior. So, to imply that lwop is “a living hell” is nonsense.

No, it’s not lost on me, LilMe, but your post contained many elements that needed to be addressed.
I was a police officer, when I was younger. I have seen first hand the horror that evil men do, and how devastating and senseless their actions are. They must and should be removed from society, and as in the case of Texas law, if the person exhibits a potential future threat, it is a factor in determining the death penalty.
Responded to a “welfare” call, as an out of town husband hadn’t been able to contact his wife in two days. We went to the address, and when we saw the bugs running in and out of the back door, we knew it wasn’t going to be pleasant. A man that worked for the couple around the house, had stabbed her 36 times with a butcher knife, and left it buried in her chest. Why? She caught him stealing some jewelry.
We caught that monster, and of course he said he was innocent, even with the evidence in hand, and the defensive scratches all over his face from when she fought back.
I don’t care for scum that murder, and while I have sympathy for those who have had their lives turned upside down by them, they deserve the death penalty, it is justified by the law, and by the law of God.

Texas judge reversed the death warrant.

It is rumored now via a texas radio station that the stay has now been reversed.

All I can think of is BigSis and what this must be doing to her. Such an aweful rollercoaster ride. My prayers are with her that she receives justice for her sister! I am praying hard it happens tonight!

LilMe wants us to think that the 6th commandment means you can’t execute murderers. However, there are places in the OT commanding murderers be executed.

Exodus 21:12-14
12″Anyone who strikes a man and kills him shall surely be put to death. 13However, if he does not do it intentionally, but God lets it happen, he is to flee to a place I will designate. 14But if a man schemes and kills another man deliberately, take him away from my altar and put him to death.

Leviticus 24:17
17″‘If anyone takes the life of a human being, he must be put to death.

So obviously there is a difference between executing a murderer and murdering someone in cold blood according to the OT. Like I said the Old Testment is not a good place to argue against the dp.

Cheers Ana! You too! I’m just pleased we’ve infiltrated this site and hopefully helped to balance the commentary. Crucially though, Anonymous is just ‘jack off’ boy and not worth the effort! Ultimately what is important is that flaws in the case against Charles are clearly being considered which is re-affirming but obviously difficult for the relatives who see his death as the closure they need. I really do hope that Charles lives and they can find some peace without his family becoming victims as well.

The DAs appeal was denied because the trial judge recused himself and the TCCA can no longer order him to rescind his order. BUT, prison officials are still not moving him back which means to me that something is still going on.

Obviously, more than you. He moved to have dna testing on items of evidence but it was denied. He appealed, and it was denied. It was denied because it would not provide exculpatory evidence.

HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) - Charles Dean Hood’s reprieved from his scheduled execution tonight, but he’s not being moved back to death row just yet.

State prison officials declined to immediately move Hood back to death row because the Collin County District Attorney’s Office was appealing the ruling from State District Judge Curt Henderson to the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals. That court denied the appeal because it said Henderson had recused himself after his ruling and no longer had authority in the case.

Additionally, SCOTUSblog (the Supreme Court Blog) states:

Even if you’re a death penalty supporter you can’t think it’s a good thing for Texas’ highest criminal court to rubber stamp executions with such obvious problems in the case, especially when there’s a conflict of interest that might implicate them personally. You just don’t use a legal technicality to avoid examining possible wrongdoing by your friend, not when somebody’s life is literally hanging in the balance.

All of the recent SCOTUS-created restrictions on the death penalty - for juveniles, for the mentally retarded, in cases where black jurors were eliminated because of race - were established because of routine abuses, both real and perceived, allowed in Texas courts by the CCA. In each instance, SCOTUS found Texas’ judicial practices so egregious it eliminated the death penalty or ordered new trials for large classes of defendants. I’ve often thought that if SCOTUS ever does wind up abolishing the death penalty entirely down the line, it might well be because Texas does the most executions and our courts aren’t giving these cases enough scrutiny.

I’m just passing through, but I agree with the commentators who say that the tone of the discussion is very disturbing. There are valid arguments for capital punishment. That’s fine. What bothers me is the way supporters seem to positively enjoy watching this process take place. In the end it’s not really about argument at all but about gut feeling. That’s a bad way to conduct law and justice. This back and forth over Hood’s execution tonight is a disgrace, deeply upsetting to all concerned - the victims’, Hood, prison staff. It tells us something about the state of justice in the USA that so many executions come down to the wire like this. Hood could be being executed as I write, for all I know. This is a terrible way to conduct law and justice, just terrible for Texas and the USA.

This was a lovely thread, until the malicious opponents to our justice system could no longer stand it, and had to purge their bile.
As bad as this situation is, there is another murderer, who after 32 years on death row, gets a new trial…his third. For those who claim we rush to judgement, that our system isn’t diligent and cautious about executing an innocent person, their words ring hollow.
As to the cost of keeping a person locked up for life being more expensive than executing them, actually, it is more expensive under the current system, to execute them. The inmate can continue to file appeals, and other motions, and delay the execution, while driving up the legal costs to the state, as well as the transportation costs, if the inmate gets to go to court.
The fact that the current system is more expensive, is the only argument with any substance to justify keeping them locked up forever, but it ain’t enough.

Then praise those inmates, few as they are, that tell the shysters to FOAD, and not file any more appeals on their behalf. There was an attorney in Ft. Worth, Texas, back in the early nineties, that went berserk and shot several people in a court room. He waved all appeals, and was executed 18 months after his conviction.
He did it, everybody knew he did it, and to his credit, he was a man about it, in the end. Unlike the little weasel, life-long manipulators so many of the cowards on death row are.

So, Mr. Hood got his stay due to lack of time. That was a close one and I’m sure that Mr. Hood is somewhat relieved although if he doesn’t get a new trial, this will happen all over again. His troubles are far from over.
To the Big Sis, I’m sorry for you and what an emotional day this must have been for you and The Williamson and the Hoods as well.
His Attorney’s now have 30 days to prepare for what they need to do.

I was there tonight from 5pm until midnight. For starters I find it a bit odd that anyone was allowed any sort of internet access from the Walls unit.
After this long long long night I want to say that I feel bad for both families tonight. It was a roller coaster type night and what is really sad is that everyone involved will have to go through it again in 31 days. So it seems.
To a person, everyone that was anywhere near the unit tonight says that they felt bad for both families. It was a rough one.

I say this because MY family has suffered for nearly THIRTY YEARS with a screwed up “legal system” wherein my younger brother was falsly accused of crimes he did NOT commit. He was an inhalant abuser, which made him a nuisance to society. The charges became more serious when sniffing became a FEDERAL offense. Long story short, my nuisance of a brother continually copped a plea to any and all charges against him in order to get out of jail so he could go back to his sniffing.

Folks, don’t believe for one minute that our legal system can’t and won’t do whatever they deem necessary to “get their guy”, whether he’s innocent or not. My mother tracked the facts on several of these trumped up charges and embarrassed the State of Texas like no other. It has cost her her intire life savings to do this over and over through the years - all the while PRAYING that my brother would just stop sniffing and become a productive citizen. In the end, a judge who’d made US a promise to help my brother (said all he needed to do was ASK) BROKE his word. Not only did he lie to us, but he set my brother up for failure so he could send him down for life. I won’t bother with the details, except to say that my brother has never killed, robbed or even abused anyone. He was a SNIFFER, that’s it. His life revolved around staying high.

I spent my entire working life in law, first as a secretary, then as a seasoned paralegal. Given my profession, in the beginning, I defended THE LAW - not my brother. But I’m here to tell you ALL that the things I witnessed, the things I learned, made me sick and I have never worked in law since. We have a corrupt system where SOMEONE has to pay… UNLESS you have lots of money. I’ve BEEN there, seen it, heard it. The State of Texas convinced themselves they’d perpetrated the PERFECT setup…more than once. You could have scrambled the egg on their faces when my mother finished with them! MY BROTHER WAS INNOCENT - although if you look at his record to this day, he looks like a horrible person.

We spent over 16 yrs trekking back and forth to the prisons to visit him — every opportunity that he was ALLOWED a visit. It didn’t take long to learn that we were the ones keeping him ALIVE by our visits. Those guards KNEW that we would be there, come visiting time! There are more horror stories about his many years in prison I could share, but you probably wouldn’t believe them anyway.

My reason for writing this is NOT to fly in here and proclaim this man’s innocence. I don’t know if he did it or not. I DO know that we have executed many INNOCENT people in the past. My reason for writing this is to ask each and every one of you to LISTEN to what he has written and ask yourselves the questions he has asked. MY BROTHER DID THIS SAME EXACT PROCESS AND THAT IS WHAT MADE ME, THE PARALEGAL SIS, SIT BACK AND TAKE NOTICE OF A SYSTEM I REVERED…UP UNTIL THAT TIME!! This man COULD BE innocent. As for the fear of the young lady’s family members being murdered one by one - put yourself in HER place. Sounds plausible. The circles in which I now run in defending this country put me in the same position….fear for my family’s safety. I have to take great care in what I say and do while defending my country, lest one of the ilk should track me down and hurt my family.

Whether he is or isn’t guilty, it is NOT your place in life to revel in his misery…and I can tell you that nearly 20 yrs in prison, especially as a WHITE man, is no picnic! I doubt that many of you, if ANY, have had any dealings with prisons. Family members are treated like common criminals when they try to visit. And THAT, dear readers, is putting it MILDLY!

I’ve read some statements by “Christians” on here. Give me a break! A CHRISTIAN would shed a tear for the guy who was executed for the Oklahoma bombings. Do you know why? Because if that person has not given their life over to Jesus, that is one more soul claimed by satan. And THAT should make every “Christian” on this board think twice about cheering this man’s execution on.

As I said, I don’t know if he is innocent or guilty. And I DO believe in the death penalty for heinous crimes because our Bible laid out when it is OK for mankind to take a life of someone - very specifically. But OUR goal as Christians should be to make sure that person has accepted Christ, whether it is an innocent person about to be executed or a guilty person. THink about it.

I won’t be returning to this site - so don’t expect any responses. I wish this man a safe journey to the hereafter, as it appears he will soon be going there - though not today. I wish the remaining family members of the victims PEACE in their hearts and not vengance. What does our Bible tell us about vengance? COULD you live with yourselves when and if that guy ever DOES come forward and admit that an innocent man (assumption here) has served 19 yrs for something he may not have had a part in? The guilt in your hearts would be a hard hard thing to live with - even harder than what this man on death row is now living with. Think about it………

Anonymous, you sound like you’re enjoying the fact that a man who has sat in prison for 19 yrs is living his life one hour at a time, waiting for the noose to tighten around his neck.

No, I would have preferred that he had been “shot and killed while trying to escape” 19 years ago. But, thanks for asking!

Oh, and Hood is guilty. Your implication that he may not, is both stupid and offensive. I would also point out that a lot of what you write is just plain nuts. Seriously. You make no sense and exhibit symptoms of paranoia.

The NYT is stating that this scum-sucking a**hole has been granted a one-time 30-day reprieve.

Big Sis, this has to be an emotional roller coaster for you. Plesse know that, except for the trolls, we are all behind you.

This is outrageous !
What on earth happened with this judge. Did all the media attention finally get to him and he wanted to distance himself from it all ?
To all those who are happy about this put yourself in Big sis’s shoes for a minute. Hood’s cowardly act of shooting a defenseless woman deserves no less than the forfiture of his own life.
He has all but admitted that he killed them and his defence are just looking for technical reasons.
Don’t worry though his time will come and although i feel for Big sis as this must have been a nightmare for her, i hope she can take some comfort knowing how much Hood must have been sweating with only a few minutes left to go and now he will get to enjoy it all over again.
To all who are against the DP f*ck you. The victims didn’t get a stay or anyone rallying to their side did they?

Big Sis and I just pulled back into Austin.

At about 9:25 p.m., the Warden came out to where we were waiting and told us that the CCA had ordered the death warrant to be reinstated, but that there were still three issues pending before the SCOTUS.

We went back into the Walls Unit and waited. And waited.

The Warden said they needed at least 45 minutes to carry out all procedures — which means we had an effective deadline of 11:45 p.m.

At about 11:08, we were told to get ready, that SCOTUS had cleared the way for the execution.

At 11:20 the witnesses were lead downstairs. They were literally one door away from entering the death chamber.

However, there was a mistake or screwup at the prison, and Hood was never moved from his cell to the gurney.

And thus they clock ran out on the families. At about 11:40, they were led backup stairs to the family room.

Hood was not granted a stay. The death warrant simply expired.

However, the good news is that all of the courts cleared all of the appeals out of the way. The execution had the green light from the highest courts in this state and this country.

Hopefully the DA will be requesting a new death date as quickly as possible. Unfortunately that can happen no sooner than 30 days.

After the judge withdrew the order initially, Hood was put back in the van and was on his way back to the Polunsky unit in Livingston.

But they never made it back there. The van did a u-turn and headed back to the Death House. I’ll bet Hood shit himself when that happened.

I’ll have much more to write about his tomorrow after we’ve had a good nights sleep.

I’ll tell you this…as difficult as it was for the Williamson and Wallace families, they were remarkably strong and patient throughout. But this ordeal was cruel and unusual punishment to them. Judge Henderson should be ashamed of himself.

Big Sis goes home tomorrow, but has vowed to return when Hood gets his next date (soon).
