Just another loyal, sweet family pet that wouldn't hurt anybody...
A 5-year old Weslaco (TX) boy was grabbed around the torso by his family pit bull and dragged out into the yard.
The dog then moved his bite, and eventually locked onto the child’s throat. The boy did not survive his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Not some stranger’s dog. But his own family pit bull. How much money do you want to bet that the owners of this pit bull would have described it as a wonderful sweet family pet that would never hurt a fly. They would probably point to the fact that their 5-year old nephew lived safely and happily with their two pit bulls.
Right up until the moment the pit bull killed him.
Again — if you are going to own pit bulls, do not own children. Do not let children in your home. Ever. Do not let your dangerous dog off a very strong chain that is wrapped around your own neck if you do take them out in public.
I hope that the owners of these two pit bulls are brought up on charges of child endangerment and negligent homicide. Because they are guilty of both.
Sadly, the boy had been living with his aunt and uncle after Child Protective Services placed him with them.
Here’s a note to CPS — do not place children into homes that have pit bulls. They are probably safer around their abusive crack head parents than they are around these dogs.

Sorry, but it’s usually both. And while there are some good pit bull owners out there…there is no way to train awat the instinct to attack and kill that is the dominant instinct in these dangerous animals.

In this sad situation, a dog-agressive dog was chained as a guard dog in a county with an average income less than $10,000. The child came between the chained dog who was being aggressive towards another dog and the other dog.
This is a very bad recipe and the dog owners should be punished. This was a senseless death.
No dog of any breed should ever be chained as a guard dog, especially with five, yes five, children in the house.
However, it is negligent owners giving the breed a bad rap. my whole life ive been around pure bred pitbulls properly bred and taken care of. with that being said i can assure you that in no way shape or for this is a pure bred pitbull. its either some sort of cross or what i believe to be an American Bulldog or Dogo Argentino. first of all his size led me to this as this dog looks to be around 60+ lbs which is uncommon for an american pit bull terrier conditioned the way he is. Yes, they do get that big but the vast majority tend to look fat or have a different body type. The key thing here people is his jaw structure. If one was to look closely a well trained dogman or expert with a good eye will notice this dog has an overbite carried by English Bulldogs, American Bulldogs, Olde English Bulldogs etc etc. These 2 alone tell me that 1. in no way shape or form this is a pure bred American Pit Bull Terrier and 2. its most likely a American Bulldog or mix of this sort.

After reading this article, it makes me sad that there was no further research done to either fuel or rebute the argument that this author wrote. I was attacked by a Bull Dog who wasn’t even a year old and a year later I adopted a 6 week old pitbull. I have had him for two years now and have no seen anything that would make me think to not trust him. My 2 year old niece and nephew feed him treats and he follows them around all day long and licks them. I agree that it is a terrible story and that these events occur each day, however I believe that the author failed to include details to the story in order strengthen his argument. Before you write articles, I think you should spend about 7 years researching the Pit Bull breed. Watch the dog whisperer. Research! No one ever talks about any other dog attacks except Pit Bulls. People are attracted to violence, so they like to read about Pit Bull attacks. But NOTHING is ever posted like a Pit Bull is a little girls best friend, or a Pit Bull goes to an old age home and visits the seniors. I’ve been close to a few dogs, and I’ll name the breeds. I’ve known 4 Pit Bulls, one Golden Retriever, One Lhasa Apso and two Shih Tzus. One of the Pit Bulls, Oscar, he mauled me and tried biting my face and throat. And yes, he had a history of violence, he attacked a girl before and gave her 40 stitches. The other Pit Bulls, Trixie, Zues and Max, I could sit on their backs, or take away their food, and even sleep beside them, and they would not care. The Golden Retriever, he snapped at my face, and this moment went by so slow, I still remember my head being in his mouth, but I jumped back, so he didn’t do much. But he also bit a little boy on his arm. He would attempt to attack anyone who left the house or backyard. He almost bit my cousin’s face. And one day, he mauled the neighbour, biting off a piece of her cheek, and bit through her wrist. Her cheek was literally on the floor. She was hospitilized for about two weeks and she had a lot of surgery done. The dog was put down. Yes, a 5 year old Golden Retriever. The Lhasa Apso I knew, Chassey, she was a really friendly dog, but she bit my hand and tugged at it. The two shih tzus that i know are my shih tzu, and my cousins. My cousin’s dog, Pal, he chased me and bit my legs. I’ve never seen an angrier dog in my life! I got bite marks, but i was fine, considering his size. Now my shih tzu, he is now a year old and so, and my vet, groomer, friends, family all say he is the sweetest dog ever. He has never bitten anyone, and always shows submission towards everyone. Now let me say something. The first Pit Bull that bit me, he had a very irresponsible owner. He wasn’t trained, so basically he was neglected. The other Pits, they were properly trained and socialized. Trixie and Max died of old age, and never ever bit anyone. Zeus is still clean. The Golden Retreiver, he had really responsible owners. They walked him, he was trained, he listened, but they tied him up all the time, which does make a dog agressive because when a dog is tied up, he is limited to protect himself. The Lhasa Apso was really friendly as well, but she was food and toy agressive, and she did not like to be touched when she was under a chair. The first shih tzu, Pal, he was neglected, and he got taken away from the owners. But what does this say? Yes, i do have a bad experience with dogs, but it is the owners fault, not the breed. The other Pits never attacked, or bit anyone. Max only ever growled at the mirror. A Golden Retriever with repeated history of violence? I don’t think anyone thought that could happen, but it did, because no matter what breed, size or colour, a dog is a dog, it is an animal. They live in packs and in order for a dog to be well trained, they need a proper pack leader who always stay the leader, in other words a good owner. So blaming Pit Bulls is a lame excuse for loss of control by the people. Pit Bulls kill 3 people per year. Ciggarettes and guns kill way more! What would you ban? Pit Bulls did not make the nuclaer bomb. They don’t start wars and kill people by the thousands. PEOPLE are the ones who should be judged, not the dogs! I own a pit bull and I have children as well and I will tell you one thing that if the pit bull attacked this child then the dog was not properly socialized with children or other dogs. For example did you know that a pomerain killed a five month old girl? Should that girls parnets be brought up on charges? I don’t think so. Pit Bulls need to be socialized with all types of people and other dogs or you will have more and more of this, and did the family say what kind of living conditions the dogs were in because from the picture they look like it was almost nothing that would also have played into it.

I own two pit bulls…….they are the sweetest animals to ever walk the face of this earth….i have been bitten twice by my neighbor’s toy poodle. saying that all pit bulls are mean is the same as saying that all black people are criminals, its just wrong and stupid.

The American Pitbull Terrier was not originally bred to be human aggressive. However, with everyone and their son breeding ‘pitbulls’, the breed as a whole is going to suffer.

I have had numerous dogs. to name a few. 2 dobermanns, 2 rottweilers, 1 maltese, 1 maltese poodle, 1 mini pin, and now i have my second PITBULL. Full Blooded could be potentially killer very easily.
Now owning my NINTH dog. and SECOND PITBULL. What I can say is of all Nine, the TWO PITS are the most loving, smart, meschievious, fun, dogs that I have had..

Not only are the arguments weak, but it is difficult to give them any credibility. The grammar is horrible and the profanity un-called for. Please for the breeds sake, just find a good link that supports your case and then copy and paste it, rather than using any of your own words. As a APBT owner myself, I strongly believe that to own an animal of this strength, an individual must do a massive amount of research to find out if the breed is right for them. It is my opinion that very few owners have the time or ability to properly exercise and socialize their dogs. These are vital training techniques, that are required of this breed. If you have (or are considering) a pit-bull, please consider everything that they require, and be responsible. Don’t strengthen the stereotypes.

I found this post tonight as I was looking for pictures of pitbulls on Google. I am the proud owner of a beautiful pit mix and an American Staffordshire Terrier (one of the “bully” breeds). I’ve had dogs all my life, and none were as amazingly loyal and loving as these two are. They want nothing more than to make their family happy. I’m greeted with kisses every day when I come home from work.
I can’t imagine my life without these beautiful animals. My 7 year niece would agree with me. Every time she’s over she loves playing with my dogs! My niece is my world and I would never EVER let her near a dog that I thought would harm her. Just take a look at this picture and it’s easy to see not all pitbulls are evil like this person would have you believe. 
Of course you shouldn’t leave an unsupervised child with ANY dog. Any dog can bite, even the breeds that are supposed to be good family dogs. So please, don’t judge a dog simply because of it’s breed.
Where were the adults that are supposed to supervise the kid.
The dog did wrong and there is no question there. But you need to realize that there are more pitbull attacks recorded because the dogs were bred for aggressiveness and to attack until their opponent is dead, also more intercity and lower income people own these dogs because people fear them and they are a dime a dozen. Plus the fact that people breed for their aggressiveness and not for the standards of the breed is a huge reason why.

The dogs tail is clipped and MOST pits do not have their tails clipped. Boxers have their tails clipped. However, in the odd case that it is indeed a pit, it is probably one of the weird anonomiles because white pit bulls are EXTREMELY RARE> meaning it is a genetic mess up, like albino humans, and could possibly be genetically predisposed to be aggressive. That dog is not a pit bull in my opinion.

You don’t know the history of this dog. they could’ve adopted him not knowing if he was in an abusive home or was previously used in dog fighting. i work at a shelter and ive dealt with many pitbulls that are very friendly dogs. its how they are trained. If this dog didnt have a previous bad home, maybe it had a brain disorder. I owned a lab that had a mental disorder that attacked one of my friends (she’s ok) but he had a good home, and a lab is normally a great breed. so please, don’t think dangerous the second you hear “pit bull” and please dont make judgements. they have feelings too.

i have two blue pitbulls and i have a 5 year old sister who rough plays with them and my dogs has never bit any body and she plays in the back yard all day( only check ins but no super vision) my pits are great dogs for my family and that pic you have of that dog i can tell you thats no pitbull… i never seen a pit with a cliped tail and the head does not match the pitbulls head.. you should really do much more reaserch on the breed the history for the pit is not to hunt down people duh!!! oh and i take my pits oout in public and they great every body who walks by with lots of kissis…

Yes, Pit Bulls were bred to fight other dogs, NOT PEOPLE. The breed originated in the 1800s, where, even as fighting dogs, they lived in the home and are known in the UK as “Nanny Dogs” because of their natural ability to care for family members. Any dog displaying aggression was either euthanized or not bred from. That was 200 years ago. The breed has come a long way since then.
I am an animal rescuer and have worked as a dog handler and walker. I have rescued over a dozen Pit Bulls and Pit mixes and have never been attacked (even by dogs previously used for fighting). ANY DOG CAN BITE and you are so horribly ignorant to think otherwise.

Pits are probably the most loving, caring and obedient dogs. Period. I have owned labs my whole life and used to hate pits. Once my brother bought his first pit, I fell in love. She is a real red nose American Pit Bull Terrier. No weird breeding involved here. This dog has never provoked a fight and has never growled, bitten or snapped at any other dog. She lives with a black lab and 4 cats and has never even thought about showing her teeth to either my lab or the cats. She gets out all the time and is always around new dogs including other pit bulls and she is a treat to be around. I cannot take my lab anywhere because I’m afraid he will provoke a fight with another dog… Yes, a black labrador retriever. Hard to believe that isn’t it. All you people that have been given false information by newspapers, reporters on tv and elsewhere, well, I’m sorry if you actually believed them. Piece of advise, do some REAL research on these dogs and you may come to realize they are incredible dogs and if raised right, can live with anyone and any animal. That goes for any dog, not just pit bulls. Dogs are like children. If you love them and raise them right, they will be great loving family dogs. That’s the bottom line. If pits were terrible dogs, why would the US Army use it as a mascot in WW2? Why would they put a killer animal with a bunch of children in “The Little Rascals”? you mean pit-bull mixes, most people are too ignorant to correctly distinguish a Pitbull from a Cane Corso or Argentine Mastiff, etc. It isn’t one dog breed. The Pit-bull is a work of art, and a very special dog, whose ownership and breeding should be limited to those few responsible enough to handle them (ie- lots of exercise, being a strong pack leader, etc.). Malinois are also a loaded-gun type working dog breed, but their ownership is very exclusive(for now) so you don’t hear much about them.

I also have two sons one is 3 years old and the other is 6 months. I also have been running a kennel breeding Pitbulls for going on 8 years in May 2009. My 3 year old son beats the shit out of every one of my dog’s and yes even when the puppies are with mom he is down there messing with the puppies. 90% of Pitbull attacks reported were later withdrawn due to dog breed misidentification yet the articles against the Pitbulls stay online because someone copied and pasted it on a chat forum.

Why is everyone blaming the dog and not the parents? Why did they leave this child alone with a dog? And no not just a pitbull, ANY dog should never be left unattended with children. For a fact Pitbulls are one of the most common dogs people own. when any breed reaches the popularity that the Pitbull has there are of course more attacks on people, no matter what breed it is. German Shepherds, Rot’s, Doberman’s, and Boxers all have had their “popular” years and of course the attack percentages all have went up. If Pitbull’s are banned there will just be another breed to take its place. The dog had the sence of protecting his owner against the other dog, the reason both owners were in the pit with their dog. If any dog had shown any type of agression towards people the dog would have been killed on the spot. Todays dog fighters just neglect their dogs until they become agressive in general. Every country has bred their own form of the Bully/Mastiff dog: Japan-Tosa Inu, South African Boerboel, France-Dogue de Bordeaux, Italy-Cane Corso, Argentina- Dogo Argentino, Brazil- Fila de Brasilero, and of course England- the olde english bulldogge, Staffordshire terrier, english bulldog, and Mastiff to name a few. These dogs aren’t related, they are independently and selectively breed. Banning the Pit Bull will just draw another dog breed into the vacuum created. And those dog breeds originating from other countries named above are not hard to find in the US. The problem is with the people that get their hands on these very specialized dogs, and will always be with the people. All this ban the breed talk is just trying to shift responsibility off the people (that created the breed in the first place) and push it on a less-intelligent animal, that at the end of the day is still an animal living in a human world, not a furry person.
Just like post modern art, it is an abomination.
I have never said this type of dog is that aggressive, but so much more destructive when it attacks, and that it attacks without provocation, even its own family members.
The banning of this dog is proceeding, but not nearly rapidly enough.
This is the best reply….. Dog ownership is a big responsibiliy period. You have to understand what makes the breed ” tick” Any dog can and will bite. It is the owners responsibilty to be responsible. It is the ignorance of the owner, not the dog. I know how most feel about pit bulls and other “aggressive breeds”. The dogs any dog has to be taught manners and never should be allowed dominancy within the family… its a pack thing a pecking order.

When pits bite they don’t let go, they are known as a “grasping dog,” which is a trait they were originally bred for, bull baiting.
Aggression isn’t a factor with these dogs. They are known to not show any aggressive display before attacking. Unlike getting a nip from an ill-tempered Chihuahua, these animals kill and maim more than any other type of dog.
Without provocation they attack by breaking out of fenced yards, and busting through windows, for a person, child, or pet doing nothing more provocative than walking down the sidewalk.

OMG, I am so sick of site’s and other people hatin on pitbulls. sure the attack was the dogs fault but honestly if u use ur small pea brains and think about it, its the owner’s fault because of how they treat their pitbull, i have had close to 15 pitbulls around me my whole life( i’m 16 ) and not 1 of those dogs were disobedient, they all did as they were told. now my main point all this banning of the pitbulls has made sooo….. many people mad AND I AM ONE OF THEM!!!

I am a pitbull owner, and have a daughter of my own. The two of them are inseparable. Our dog would do anything to protect his friend. The problem is people who do not properly care for their dogs. They do not socialize and exercise the dog so that it can fulfill it’s basic needs. My mother in law is a chihuahua owner and I have had more problems with that piece of crap dog.
I own a six year old PitBull, and i know for a fact she would never hurt anyone! She loves childern, and even nursed a litter of kittens!
so FUCK OFF.
