The Rest of the 2008 PGA Season Has Been Cancelled

If it’s OK that a lot of people want Barry Obama to win simply because he’s black, is it OK that I wanted Roco Mediate to win the US Open simply because he was white?

‘Cause I was really rooting for Roco.

In related news, Tiger Woods has announced that the 2008 Golf season is over.

Ok, so what he announced is that his 2008 golf season is over because he is having more surgery on his left knee (to repair his ACL) and to allow a stress fracture in his leg to heal.

So, without Tiger playing the rest of the season, the season is effectively over (at least as far as crowds, television ratings, and advertising is concerned).

At least it will give some white guys a chance to win a few tournaments. Unless Vijay Singh can suddenly find his lost game.

  1. Robbie…you were not the only one rooting for Rocco to win. I was too. And not because Tiger is black and Rocco is white, but because Rocco is 45 and may not have the chance to win the US Open again. Tiger will have plenty more chances. I will always root for the old guy to beat the young guy, even if it rarely happens.

But as a former medic, you got to give Tiger props for what he was able to do. Walking around with a torn ACL is one thing, but walking about with a couple of stress fractures and a torn ACL is something totally different. Now throw in walking 91 holes on a golf course and hitting against a wobbly and unstable knee when you know it is going to hurt like hell! That takes guts!

His Green Beret father Earl taught him well.

  2. Only Tigers I’m interested in, are the LSU variety, at Omaha in the CWS.
