Some great news tonight coming out of Columbia:
French-Colombian politician Ingrid Betancourt and three Americans were rescued from leftist guerrillas by Colombian troops, Defense Minister Juan Manuel Santos said on Wednesday.
Santos said all of the former hostages were in reasonably good health after being held for years in secret jungle camps.
The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, known as the FARC, has been holding about 40 high-profile hostages it has sought to exchange for jailed rebels.
Betancourt, a former presidential candidate with dual nationality, was kidnapped by the FARC in 2002. She was last seen in a rebel video at the end of last year looking gaunt and despondent.
The Americans, three Defense Department contract workers, were captured in 2003 after their light aircraft crashed in the jungles while on a counternarcotics operation.
I love that it “happens” to coincide with John McCain being in Columbia at the same time.
As The Campaign Spot noted, “John McCain goes to the southern hemisphere, and FARC releases their hostages.”
It reminds me of when Reagan took office and within hours Iran released the hostages.
I’m sure BHO is working on his press release to denounce the use of violence to rescue the hostages instead of “meeting unconditionally” with the leaders of FARC for some touchy-feely mutual masturbation.
________
Speaking of BHO and FARC…
You might remember a few months ago when the Colombian military conducted an operation against a guerrilla camp inside Ecuador’s territory against Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (FARC), also known as the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia.
During that military operation, the laptop computer of FARC’s international spokesman and second-in-command was found to have some sophomoric love letters to BHO, hoping that FARC and BHO could be boyfriend and girlfriend if BHO wins the presidency.
Just one more difference between the two candidates: they want to make sweet love to BHO, but when McCain shows up in their hood, they wet their pants and start letting hostages go.

The operation by the Columbian Army was astounding! A remarkable plan executed flawlessly. To me, it ranks right up there with the raid on Entebbe, Uganda airport by the IDF.
I do think the timing of McCain being in Columbia was interesting, but not related, and his being informed about the operation was a courtesy I don’t think Uribe would have extended to B-HO, for security reasons.
I also loved the reaction of the Columbian people, when they heard about the rescue, celebrating in the streets, causing huge traffic jams, and shouting “Today We Are Free” and “Free,Free, Free!” Uribe’s goal of smashing the sorry FARCers when he became President just may be fully realized when he leaves office in 2010.
