The Mayor of D.C., Adrian Fenty is a bit confused about what the Supreme Court of the United States said about handguns and the individual right to own them.
Just a reminder what SCOTUS said:
It is enough to note, as we have observed, that the American people have considered the handgun to be the quintessential self-defense weapon. There are many reasons that a citizen may prefer a handgun for home defense: It is easier to store in a location that is readily accessible in an emergency; It cannot easily be redirected or wrestled away by an attacker; it is easier to use for those without the upperbody strength to lift and aim a long gun; it can be pointed at a burglar with one hand while the other hand dials the police. Whatever the reason, handguns are the most popular weapon chosen by Americans for self-defense in the home, and a complete prohibition of their use is invalid.
But Mayor Fenty — pulling a page from the Barry Obama Anti-Second Amendment Playbook — wants to ban all semi-automatic handguns. Or, in other words, about 73 percent of all handguns preferred by law abiding American gun owners.
Again, Fenty…what part of “shall not be infringed” do you not understand?

Did you catch the part where Scalia talks about revolvers?
No, you didn’t, because it’s not in there. He says handguns. Semi-automatic, revolver, Rossi, Ruger, Charter, Springfield Armory, Taurus, Colt, Korth, Kimber. Even Glock.
If they persist with this ban, they will certainly find themselves facing more litigation. I don’t like the registration process, either, and if I were a resident of that community, of which I am eternally grateful that I am not, I would challenge that procedure. Since the Ottoman Empire, every nation that has instituted registration, has always followed with confiscation.
It occurred to me that the D.C. officials were concerned that with the citizens being restricted to a revolver, they wouldn’t be able to fire as many rounds in a short period of time. But we know that isn’t true, if you practice.
