So Robert Novak side-swiped a pedestrian with his Corvette today — no big deal.

Does anybody remember back to May of 2006 — when Rep. Patrick Kennedy (D –RI), the son of Sen. Teddy Kennedy — was driving erratically, nearly ran over a police cruiser, and then collided with a barricade. At 2:45 a.m.

When the who-are-we-kidding, we-ALL-know-he-was-drunk Representative stumbled out of his car, he said that he was in a hurry because he was late for a House vote.

At 2:45 a.m.

Of course you don’t remember. It was all quietly swept under the carpet.

In a very short time, nobody will remember this either.

So, was it just a ‘Vette, or was it a Z06?
If he had told the police he was listening to NPR, they would have charged him for driving under the influence of propaganda.

Of course, no one will remember. We’ve normalized automobile violence in this country. 40,000 people a year die in car crashes but we smile and wink when people like Novak label themselves as “aggressive” drivers.

If you ever intend to kill someone your best bet is to use a car. You won’t even get a ticket.

(The fact that he tried to drive away only emphasizes the point that he’s an asshole.)

Preston, you sure seem certain he hit some one, for not being a witness.
It just as easily could have been some guy looking for an insurance settlement. And you assigned the label to Novak, he specifically stated he is not aggressive, anymore.

D.C. police confirmed that there was an accident at 18th and K streets NW at approximately 10 a.m. involving a black Corvette convertible and that the driver was a white male.

And?
Were you there?
That doesn’t mean it wasn’t a set up for insurance fraud.
There are many aggressive and dangerous drivers out there, no doubt, and you never know how little it will take to set them off.

E.M. Zanotti had an interesting post about this event.

I am entirely sympathetic to Mr. Novak. I was driving home from church (really!) on a Sunday morning and came upon an odd cluster of people in the road, one running and two others riding bikes. There was little traffic, so I passed them. This was apparently poor etiquette- not illegal but deeply offensive to the group as they pounded my car as I passed. Mind you, I was going very slowly and giving them wide berth but I still managed to piss them off.

And don’t get me started on bicycles.

Barbara, someone pounded your car once so it’s ok for Robert Novak to leave the scene after hitting someone with his car?!?

What the hell?

Barbara, it’s probably the same thing that happened with Novak, that happened to you.

I don’t know- did the person who pounded on Barbara’s car also roll over the windshield?

This compulsive need to make excuses for illegal behavior is sick.

So, you were there then, Preston!
You seem to keep making shit up, as I haven’t seen or heard any of the information you keep coming up with.

You can’t find it so I must be making it up? Classic- you could just ask for a link instead of calling people liars.

Here ya go, Princess:

The bicyclist, attorney David Bono, also disputes Novak’s account:

“There was a pedestrian splayed on his windshield — I don’t think there is any way you can miss that.” Bono also said that the pedestrian was in a crosswalk and had the right of way.

Thanks for the info, Mary.
According to Novak, he didn’t see anyone.
Unlike you, precious, I have actually investigated traffic accidents, and my BS detector is activated on this one. Having seen too many incidents of insurance fraud, as well as having some asshole try and pull it on my Mom, and on me, I’ll wait until his insurance companie’s investigators get through looking into the complainant and the “bicyclist” witness. Funny, you never hear of this happening with a car that doesn’t look expensive, and most likely with insurance.
Even if it is true, there are these things known as accidents, and not necessarily an intentional act.
Then there are the bicyclists, ah yes. A mob of them attacked a man in Seattle when they were doing one of their “Block All Roads” massing things the other day, they beat him, knocked out the windows in his car, and slashed his tires.
More than once I have chased down a bicyclist that has caused an accident, and forced them to return to the scene of the vehicle accident they caused.

Got something you want to say?
