Gun Sales in Austin Up on Fears of an Obama Presidency

People are buying more guns than last year, based mostly on the possibility of an Obama presidency.

It’s no secret that Obama is anti-second amendment. His voting record and his past words and actions are clear about that.

This summer, sales at McBride’s Guns in Austin are 10 percent higher, compared with the same time last year.

“Our regular client base is very concerned about anti-gun legislation if the wrong people get elected,” said Joe McBride, owner of McBride’s Guns, adding “what they see as the wrong people.”

This is an issue that the GOP needs to beat Obama about the head with.

I share their fears. While I could always use another firearm, it’s the magazines and ammo for the ones I already have that will really go up in price should the Messiah win the election. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the sales increases aren’t related to the Heller case bringing additional focus to firearm ownership, too.

It would be interesting to find out if the sales of firearms in the remainder Texas and surrounding states such as Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana have increased! This won’t be a surprise.

Can’t you see there’s a political point to be made here- the actual cause of the increase is irrelevant.

I still need the proper motivation to spring for a new Barrett.
I’ll wait until after the election, though, I still have faith we won’t be seeing any hopiness or changeyness.

I’d really like to know what kind of handgun to get…I’ve handled a shotgun before, but not for at least 10 years. If anyone sees this, suggestions welcome. Course, no matter what I get I’m planning on taking lessons. Want something easy to use.

Dianne,
I can offer some suggestions.
First, if you aren’t going to spend the time training, don’t go for a semi-automatic. There are many moving parts, safeties, and controls you will need to manipulate quickly, and you will need to know how to clear a malfunction quickly, because a semi will eventually malfunction, but only when you need it most. Go for a revolver, if you aren’t going to train. You can load a revolver and forget about for eternity, but not so with a magazine fed semi.
Secondly, go to a gun show. There will be every imaginable make and model there, that you can look at and hold in your hand, and the price at a gun show will be the best price you can get, unless you know someone who owns a gun shop. If you did know someone who does, you probably wouldn’t be asking for advice. Do some advance research on the major handgun manufacturers, and have some basic knowledge when you go shopping, on features/price, and maybe take a friend who is knowledgeable.
Thirdly, only buy a quality handgun, and when you put the gun in your hand the first time, if it doesn’t feel right, it never will. It needs to feel right, an extension of your hand.
I recommend a revolver in .357 Magnum. You can use .357 ammo, as well as .38 Special ammo. It is the same projectile, just a different case, with more propellant in the Magnum, and the .38 Special is cheaper, so you can practice, and the .38 Special is a subsonic round, so it won’t damage your hearing if you don’t have ear protection…such as if you are suddenly attacked. Taurus has a seven shot .357 Magnum, at a very good price. I load my six shot, short barreled .357 Mag, with .38 Special in the first three chambers, and .357 Mag in the last three. If the first three don’t get the job done, I have much more serious issues than potential hearing loss.
Lastly, don’t pay MSRP for a handgun! You can usually get the same gun that lists for $400, for less than $300 at a gun show.

Thanks No2 for the great advice. We just had a big gun show here while I was gone last weekend…darn….

Anyhow I’m certainly not going to get a semi-automatic and I’m going to check out that Taurus.

Dianne, Taurus makes a plethora of revolvers, all reasonably priced, with life time warranties. Just stay away from the titanium or scandium models. The weight savings isn’t worth the price, just stick with good old blued or stainless steel models.
